Hey people!
My name is Casey and I am the proud new owner of a Canary winged beebee parrot!!! Has anyone ever heard of this type of bird before?? Also, I have gotten him settled in, started clicker training with him, and already stopped his screaming habit. We have bonded wonderfully but there is a down side..... he loves me too much!! He has started biting on the side of his cage to get my attention (which I won't give if he's being naughty) training has gone so well till this started a day or two ago... I would like to try to nip this quickly so he doesn't get a bad habit. I take him out of his cage frequently so he is not starved for attention, and he has a nice setup in his cage. I'm getting the feeling he doesn't want to be separated AT ALL from me... if ANYONE has any tips, or maybe a better section to post in, PLEASE let me know! Greatly appreciated, -Casey Lei |

Thanx!
You might be right, I was fussing over him and didn't allow him to do his 'thing' . He really likes his new cage and toys, I was so pleased to see him cooing, playing and nibbling on toys yesterday! He enjoyed his time to himself, so I will start a routine of taking him out maybe twice a day? How many times do owners usually take out their birds? How can I create a balance of 'play time' and 'cage time'? Thank you for replying, I can't wait to get some photos up, but my fiance left our digital cam at the fishing club! Arrggh

I take mine out as much as possible when home. Elliot can stay out all the time when I'm home - he's my angle baby.
![]() My Newt Newt just will not sit still - I think the "child" has ADHD. LOL He has to be supervised at all times when he is out. If they don't want to come out and play (which is extremely rare), they'll let you know.

Canary-winged parakeets are adorable :) They are part of the brotogeris family (grey-cheeked, orange-chinned, etc.). Brotos were easily imported before the early 90s and were very popular pets. Canary-winged parakeets are becoming more available now, which is great. Can I ask where you got him?
I have a Golden-winged parakeet (same family). He turned 4 months old yesterday and I love him to bits! I do have a bit of a routine with him: he gets playtime outside of his cage and then he goes back in for a bit so I can run errands and such before work (I work swing shift). Sometimes I have him out for an hour before putting him back in the cage, other times 3 hours. I vary it a bit so that he's not dependent on one scenario. He's out more than just 1 hour a day, though: I just break it up. To learn more about canary-wings, you may wish to check out the Brotogers list on Yahoo. There are quite a few canary-wing caretakers there ;) Bev Marsh has a wonderful site devoted to brotogeris parakeets, too: Genus Brotogeris Best of luck with your little guy, CaseyLei! I can't wait to see photos :)
