I thought this was a forum

When I first joined this forum I thought the purpose was to educate ppl on the care of birds . Now it seems that we have to watch what we say in our posts because we might offend someone . I am not one for sugar coating anything . If ppl dont want to know the truth about something then why come to a forum thats sole purpose is to educate and inform . Lately it has been brought to my attention that some ppl are being attacked for telling the truth . Yes some ppl have been raised to be blunt . Sometimes being blunt is the only way to get some ppl to get it ,even then I still dont think they do . I for one am done with this board because the sole reason is this board is no longer an educational forum it has become a nursery school. I for one am not a nursery school teacher and dont wish to be so . So if i offended anybody with this post I am sorry but I know there are others out there that feel the same way I do .so this it for me .

I'm totally with you on this one which is why I don't post here anymore. God forbid should we actually educate anyone one the realities of what's really going on in the bird world. The only reason I even popped in today was to post about a breakthrough in PDD research!

on a more positive note I love this board. Having only been owned by our tiel since april we have asked loads of questions on here and had loads of really helpful replies. I have seen some posts I have thought were a little harsh but then I have also seen somewhich appeared innocuous totally misconstrued. I think sometimes people may need to relax a little.
I hate to think of people leaving as the more members we have the more we can share our (limited in my case) knowledge.
Anway hope I haven't offended anyone with this post and we can keep all our members, remember, the more the merrier!

Oh good grief.

You can tell the truth nicely or you can tell the truth rudely. Nice tends to go further whereas rude turns people off and they don't listen.

So, what's the better option? Get more to listen and learn or tick them off so they tune you out, therefore loosing what you were trying to share?

What is so hard to understand about that?

I agree 100%.I have been to many forums and sites if you can't speak from your experience and what you have seen and what you know then what is point of having a forum or site.No fowl language is being said nor no name calls. If no one is going to look out for the birds since this is supposed to be the sole purpose unless somewhere I missed that page.I do animal rescue and take in rehomes and have seen too many die.So I guess with that in mind I'm suppose to think before I write something to someone?
If that is the case then why I am I here?To make sure I don't offend or as someone else may put it hurt a persons feelings?I think we should be beyond that and grow up suck it and let's do what we came her to do and that is to help and educate people with birds and other animals.I'm sure each and everyone of us has some experience in some area. But instead we are being told to wait tip toe around because you wouldn't want to offend while the animals are dieing from foolish things that could be prevented. If we're kicked off or sent a PM for this than it's not the place that it's claimed to be.

Noun: forum (forums,fora) forum

1. A public meeting or assembly for open discussion

2. A public facility to meet for open discussion
- assembly, meeting place

Open discussion does not imply that there is only one right way, YOUR way, of doing something. I am from NY and have a habit of being a bit blunt, sarcastic, and smart a$$ in some of my replies. But I do make a very conscious effort to try not to be downright rude, disrespectful, or condescending.

Hmmm... I come here to SHARE my experiences, commiserate on my failures, and just generally talk to like minded people (as my "normal" friends have threatened my life and stopped inviting me out to lunch as all I ever do anymore "...is talk about them danged birds"). I guess it depends on the intent of the forum. Perhaps I am in the wrong place?

In all my years of Pre-School, Grammar School, Middle School, High School and College none of my teachers or professors needed to be rude to teach or educate. It is unfortunate that this forum needs to go through this every once in a while but it is true that we don't always "read into" the expressions that may come along with a response. Sometimes I feel it is best to just state your knowledge and not your opinion .

I think to be on a forum you need thicker skin and not plan on being babied. Now I am not saying to be rude either, but if you can't take a comment or person's veiw then you are not forum type. There are people out there that come to these placed to be babied and etc and want to constantly argue.

Understand what I am saying?

I completely agree. While I also agree that is it best not to be rude, different people will have different interpretations of rude. If I see a rusty cage or a unsafe toy, I am going to comment on it. That is why we are here to learn about birds, not be some lonely hearts club looking for a new best friend.

What I really hate is all the sugar coating. For example, "oh I have 7 chicks and they keep dying. I don't think I know how to handfeed after all". Well, I see a lot of responses that are all, "Oh you poor thing". NOT. Don't breed and kill babies if you don't know what the hell you are doing. Thats my response. Rude? I think it is MUCH ruder to be killing babies because of ignorance.
