Smile Am I crazy or can my lovebird talk?

I believe my lovebird is saying "pretty bird " and "what"...he is imitating the other birds. Is this possible or do I just think my birds talk to me? LOL!!!

It is rare, but there have been some reports of lovebirds talking. Just keep listening closely.

Yes it is possible!!! Years ago I had a lovebird and she was a little talker - she could say "pretty bird", "hello", "good morning", "nite nite", and "whats up". She was a fun little bird that very much surprised me when she started talking. Your lovie very well could be talking also.

I used to have a little white face hen that said, Hello! It was gravelly, but you could clearly understand it. I have another little edged dilute pied hen that says something, it's 2 words and it sounds like, Get Me. The second word is very high pitched and she says it so fast. And I have a friend who has a hen that says, What are you doing? Which is what she asks the quakers in her bird room. So, I would say yes! If you think you hear something, I'm sure you do. Lovebirds can definately learn different whistles and I think it all depends on what they hear when they are first becoming vocal. I have one little creamino hen that whistles like calling the dogs. It's too funny. I don't know if it's a hen thing. And I tell all of my babies, Hello, when I'm handfeeding, but they don't say it before they leave here. The little creamino was one of my hand feds that I got back by chance and she learned to call the dogs at the other people's house.

They are thought to have a very short attention span, so like teaching budgies you work on one or two word phrases only until they can do that, then you can teach a new word or phrase. Training sessions should be short, like only 5 minutes. Aren't lovebirds fun! They are My Favorite!
