Found a Parrot need help

Okay so the other day I found a parrot in the middle of the road which I nearly ran over. He immediatly came to me and landed on my shoulder. My house was a minute away so I took him home and gave him bread outside which he ate for a while as if he was starving. He had a few problems. For one the feathers around his neck are all gone. I can see the pink of his skin. But luckily he hasn't really picked anymore of his feathers since I have had him but I want advice on making sure his neck is okay.

I don't know where his owners are so I will likely keep him but there are a few problems. I have him in a cage now and he was nice at first but all of a sudden if anyne gets near his cage he goes to bite. He already bit my finger 3 times and now its bleading and I am afraid to let him out of the cage. I plan to take him to a vet over the weekend but advice on the biting and neck feathers would be very appreaciated.

Also I am not sure if its a he or she or what breed. I wil try to post pics later.

He wants to be in that cage! LOL A lot of birds are cage aggressive, so my advice to you is to get a spare perch or stick and use it to take the bird out of the cage. I imagine as soon as he's out, he'll be fine.

As for the neck feathers... He could have been with another bird who plucked him, he might have been caught by an animal and got lucky, escaping with just a bit of feathers removed, he might have mites, he might have a virus... The best bet is to see what your vet says there. For now, just ignore it if there's no visible wound and wait for the vet.

You also might want to post that you found a bird 'please identify' in the paper and around your neighbourhood. If he flew away, there might be a very heartbroken owner missing him.

I know of one or two people on other lists that have lost their parrots and are heartbroken, so please do check around for "lost parrot" flyers in your neighbourhood and check out 911 Parrot Alert. Post pics soon so the parrot can be identified asap.

I discovered the parrot is a quaker but after reading alot of posts on this message board I am getting a little worried. Since the day I found the parrot (2 days ago) its poop has been green and liquidy. After eating bread and everything his poop became hard the next day but still greenish. Now its liquidy and green. He ate a little apple today but he mostly just eats bird food I baught at the store. I am worried about that fatty liver problem. Last nigjht I even saw him standing on one leg oddly. I can't find his owner and I don't want him to die. I dont think the original owners were caring for him correcly.

Also he is still biting today but i managed to get him out of the cage for 5 minutes today and on my hand wearing a glove.

where abouts are you located it could be that some one on the forum may know of his owners.
i wouldn't be too quick to decide that the previous owners did not care for him as you've no idea how long he's been fending for himself or if he has maybe passed through someone else's hands who found him but didn't like getting bitten, if i were you I'd wait to see what the vet thinks. a local one may even know this bird and be able to contact its owners.

I would put up "Found bird" flyers in pet stores and the vet's office. I'm sure there's someone that's heartbroken to have lost him, so uniting them both would be the best.
The standing on one leg is normal. It just means that they're content and resting.
Currently, I don't think you have to worry about him eating seeds. He's probably underweight from being loose, so fattening him up with some seeds would help him!

You can also post a description on this site: Bird HotLine — World Wide Bird Lost and Found. I haven't used it but the site says it's reunited hundreds of birds with their owners.

where are you located? I would deffinetly not worry about seeds right now. If you got some pellets throw them in with the seeds and see if he will eat them. He was probably was starving.
Both of my birds are cage aggressive (one more than the other). I found that if you can get them away from their cage they are totaly different.
Also please remember you have only had him for 2 days, plus he was outside in the eliments. Be patient and move at his pace, don't force him. That will only scare him and you will loose the trust that you need to gain from him.
Try many differnt veggies and fruits. Fill up the bowl and let him pick and forage around.
I am assuming you don't have a bunch of bird experience? My suggestion is read, read, read and whn you think you have read all you can, read more!!!

Best of luck to both of you.

Quakers are especially cage aggressive, so using a perch to get him out is a great suggestion.

About his poo, well anything that goes in comes out...so green poo is not necessarily a sign of fatty liver disease, its just green poo. My bird eats colored pellets and will eat all the purple first (then have purple poos) then the greens (and then have green poos) and sometimes in between the are even multicolored. So no worries. Poos will also change from watery to hard depending on what they are eating. Any fruits are guaranteed to cause loose stools.

Oh, and you know the bad food list right No avocado, onion, eggplant, alcohol, chocolate, iceburg lettuce (for this bird because it is skinny enough), no fruit pits, uncooked potatoes, or uncooked beans...hmmm there have to be a few more...

Green poo is fine... it is the uriates (white stuff) that should not be a sickly green or tan-yellow color.
