Cheap parrot toy ideas

I just found this great website - The Frugal Parrot. There are so many cheap ideas for GREAT toys. Most ofthe supplies can be bought at the dollar store - particularly the Dollar Tree if you have one nearby. To see the ideas, when you get to this page, scroll down to the bottom

Arrow Cheap Toys, Be Careful

I liked your research so I went to that website. The toys were, for the most part, great with one exception: That wire! If you can bend it, your bird can bend it. We should never underestimate the power of our bird's beaks. The wire bent with a pliers has a tiny space where a toe or beak can get caught. I have a few "cheap toy" ideas too, but before I talk about toys, just be careful and watch out what we give our parrots.Better safe than sorry.
Toy #1-Quakers and paper chewing birds: get calculator tape rolls, Hook together plastic cable ties and hook thru the calculator roll. Tie it to the cage bars where the bird can pull the paper down by himself. Cheap and fun. My Quaker uses the shredded paper to create a "wall" by pushing her ripped pieces into the bars of the cage.
Toy #2-Take a plain milk carton (clean), no matter the size. punch a hole in the top to tie a cotton string or raffia which is how you tie it to the cage bars or playgym. Cut a hole about an inch or two from the bottom big enough for the birds beak but not too big. Put all those leftover beads and broken pieces of wood inside the carton. Add some cheerios. Go to work. It wont be there when you get home! Elise

Thumbs up

This one is so easy anyone can do it. Go to the Dollar Store and buy some brown wrapping paper. Remove the center core and divide the roll in half. You will now have two rolls of paper. Measure about every 2" and mark. Cut through the marks. Unspiral the cut pieces and find the center of each. Holding them in your hand at the center point in a stack, secure with a tie, leather thong or rope. Simply shake the whole thing and it will create a big spiral mop. Tie it inside the top of your cage for a great, easy cheap toy.

I wouldn't recommend using colored or shiny wrapping paper, because I'm not sure about dyes.

Have fun!
