Her first word! (and other milestones)

This morning when I went into the office to give Holly her breakfast, she said "Hello" to me, clear as a bell! I was so shocked I about dropped over backwards. She hasn't said anything up to this point, not even something that we know is a word but can't understand. I've heard her talking quietly to herself (and barking like my pugs) in the evenings sometimes while she's settling down to sleep, but that's all. I'm so proud my head must be swelled to twice it's usual size. She's a genious bird! She's only seven months old.

She's also really starting to get red feathers on her head, and her tail is molting. Most of her tail feathers are bent, but I'm keeping them anyway

One first that I'm not so proud of...She got out of her cage by herself today. I work nights, so after spending about an hour in the morning working on our clicker training, and playing, I went to bed. I sleep with earplugs, but I could still hear her knocking around in the next room. When I got up and went to get her back out again, she was sitting on the bottom of the computer chair, looking as proud as a little green peacock. She had opened the small door by her water dish. I think it's time to go to the hardware store and buy some better latches!

Hey Victoria,

It sounds like Holly is settling in quite well. Congrats on the new word. Before you know it, she'll be talking up a storm. I agree that it's time to get a pad lock or something to keep the doors shut. It won't make her happy, but she'll be safe. Good luck with everything.
