Lola's vet visit

Took the birdy to the vet yesterday night for a check-up (since I just adopted her 3 weeks ago), toenail clip, and possible wing trim.

I picked an avian vet who owns a Grey herself.

Lola's weight was a little on the high side, but not as bad as either the vet or myself expected when considering her previous diet.

Previous diet: Seeds & human junk food (The day I adopted her I asked the lady "what are her favorite foods" because I wanted to get them so I could make her transition as comfortable...she said "French Fries and Doritos." :aiwebs_01 )

She still has signs of her plucking/chewing (back in Oct - she wasn't even by a window and was left at home from 7am-9pm every day) but she is getting a lot better about it with more stuff to do/things to look at.

With regard to her old diet, the Vet suggested we do some blood work to make sure her Liver is healthy, cholesterol is fine, and her calcium levels are at an okay level. I didn't want to do it last night and COMPLETELY stress her out, so we agreed to wait a few weeks and do the blood. We also are going to DNA sex her, just to confirm she is in fact a "she."

The Vet also suggested we remove the band, which I agree with 100%... I hate them.

The Vet said I was doing all the right things, the most important being the change in her diet - she is on Harrisons High Potency Coarse mixed lightly with some founders formula spicier and some fresh fruit in moderation and Harrisons Power Treats for snacks.

All in all She did AWESOME. She got the vet tech a few times when she wiggled out of the towel.. and she got really warm (the examination room was obsenely hot, then add in the towel and her weight, and she was panting panting panting for a good 3 minutes!)

But when we got home I was viewed as the "rescuer" and she was very lovey for the remainder of the night.

Its easy to sex a CAG. Hold her up and look at her red tail feathers. If they are tipped in silver, its a female.

I'm so glad this dear grey found you. It's terrible the diet she was on and the fact she was alone so long during the day.
