Rose Breasted 'Too baby, needs a home.
Hi all,
Sadly, one of the birds I recently birdsat for, is being placed up for sale by her owner. She is a gorgeous Rose Breasted Cockatoo named Blossom. I fell in love with her the week I was visiting daily and caring for her. She is sooooo sweet, still very much a baby! Only 7 months old. She has been dna'd female. I would absolutely love to have her but there is no way. So, I am hoping to help find her the best home ever. Here is the information from her owner, below. If anyone is interested, please contact me, and I will put you in contact with her mom. I don't actually agree that her cage is very large for her, but it is adequate, I would say. Although I would give her a larger cage, personally. (But then, I really like large cages). Anyway, you can see her here: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/dust_nell/album?.dir=76ee [Obviously, she is the Rose Breasted Cockatoo, not the Grey or the Cockatiel]. She is located in upstate NY, near the border of Southern VT. Here is more information: "I spent $2600 on her ... I would ask $1600 .... if they wanted the cage .. it was $500 I think I would have to check. Whoever buys her will have all the blood work that is needed for a bird ... $300 worth ... a lot of people never go to the trouble or cannot afford it ... it gets expensive!! I have all her work in her file. She was hatched by her parents .. between Aug 9th and 11th .. The cage is Cal. Cage ... very large for her and I can take that back if I sell her without it. BUT WHEREVER SHE GOES SHE HAS TO GO TO A LOVING ... WANTING FAMILY ... THAT I AM CERTAIN OF !!!! So, if you know of someone please let me know. Aso, not sure if I asked you or not .. if you know of someone who wants the 180 g fish tank ... let me know. Ha .." Please contact me at amy-b @nycap.rr.com (remove the space) for more information. GRRRRRRR! Birds are not shoes. You shouldn't be allowed to try them on and then get rid of them. As for her price for her bird, she's lost her mind. But then again, I already knew that.

Das baby ist wunderbar! She's beautiful, and I wish I could help her. But I'm sure she'll go to a great home.
And I always like looking at those photo albums, Amy. I always spend too much time looking at too many pictures, and enjoying every second of it! I showed my sister those guinea pig pictures the other day, and she loved every one of them. Now if I could only get a picture of her little Victor (aka Mr. Piggles). But give my regards to Blossom. I'm not much of a 'too man, but pictures of birds like her just might change my heart. Let us know when she finds an owner who deserves her. (not meant as an insult to her current owner, but it sure sounds like one!)

No problem, Laurie. I've got my "radar" up. You know I'm a pushover!

Well, I have to say that this isn't a decision she's made lightly. I do think she is thinking of Blossom first, and certainly her uncertainty and soul searching are coming through to me in her emails. While it's not something I can ever imagine myself doing, this appears to be the best choice for her. She has taken a clear look at her own lifestyle and what she feels she can provide to the birds. A Quaker and a Grey and a Canary, do not have the same emotional needs as a cockatoo, from everything I have read. Plus she has a very strong bond with the grey, whom she weaned herself. Blossom is a bit of a nervous girl, though she settles well, and although her owner cares for her and wants the best for her, I don't feel they have bonded like she has with her Grey. So, I think this is a wonderful chance for Blossom to go to a home who will understand her needs and nuture her and help her to grow into the wonderful cockatoo she can be. Better this, than to stay somewhere and never experience the vital "connection." Anyway, just my take on the matter, having met the parties involved. I am happy to say there are a couple excellent prospects for Blossom and I'm thrilled she may get the wonderful home she deserves.
