Help!! Does anyone know?
Hi! I just acquired a female lovebird from a nice lady who just had way too many lovebirds in an outdoor aviary. she is missing a toe nail, and has a very little strange pearl (looks like a piece of millet) on the corner of her bottom beak! Is is an ulcer or contagious??? Anyone familiar with this ????? Thanks,

Have you taken the lovebird to an avian vet? If the lady was keeping too many lovebirds together in an aviary, it's possible that they have health problems. I'd recommend a vet visit...

Sounds a bit like a yeast infection. My lorikeet had this when I first got her (the horrible man at the bird supplier didn't care to mention it to me) and there was a small tan colored growth in the crevice of her beak. You'll need to take him to the vets to be treated, as the condition can get worse. I was lucky in my naivette that my lorikeet's infection just went away, but it is better to be safe than sorry. A yeast infection is like thrush so it may be contagious. I'm not quite sure. Just wash your hands after touching your bird or his things (you should do this anyway though!) Hope it turns out ok :)
