They let you touch them but hiss and/or bite everyone else.

Kinda like Max - a GW Macaw at a bird farm. Was gifted to them when owner died. Bird is called Max (bird farm was better than sounds, sold aviry stuff and poulerty keeping stuff and seed, hardly had/bred any birds)

Anyway everytime I went there to pick up quail food and sand Max would go to front of his mini aviry and I would stroke his beak. Eventually he would put his head down so I could tickle behind his head :) Even owner said I'm only one that can touch him without been bitten. Unfortunatly there was no way we could have a Macaw or he would of been mine.
Thankfully they found another he got along with before I moved here and they made a huge enclosure/aviry thin for them both. Still miss hearing his Goobye tho.

Made me love GW Macaws :D

So now I have been back there a couple of times, and she seems to be fed up with me (I think). every time I take her out now, she immediatley flies onto a perch above me, she just chews and just looks at me. If she's close enough for me to grab her she'll come down no problem, but she does tend to nibble when she does. She's only about 8 weeks. am I just crazy? do gcc's do that? what do you think?
My green cheek was a bit like that but he's fine now. I picked him when he was 6-7 weeks old. I put my hand in the cage with the babies and he came straight over and stepped up on me and wanted cuddles for the whole time. When I went back to pick him up a week later he wanted nothing to do with me. He flew up onto the shelves up high and wasnt interested in me at all. I took him home anyway since I had a great bond the previous week and it only took about 3 days before he started being all cuddley with me again. My green cheek in particular gets very angry when he doesnt have fresh food or gets it later than he expects to so it could have just been that the breeder fed him later than usual that day or something like that. They can get temperamental over the smallest things but its usually something they get over.

You just know instinctively when a bird picks you. The day I got Dino, it was actually another bird that picked me. Can't remember what type it was, but was a big white Cockatoo with a slightly pink colour, named Pinky :-) We just 'clicked' from the moment we saw each other and the breeder said he'd never seen it react to anyone as it did with me, but it wasn't for sale. They'd had it for 6 years and despite my persistance, wouldn't let me have it :-(
Oh well, as it happens, Dino, who though I hate to admit it, was my second choice, has turned out to be number 1 in my life, so I have no regrets that I picked him, and not him me. He just looked so sad and was sitting all on his own. Turns out he was ill, which is probably why he looked sad, but that's a whole other story thats posted somewhere on this board.
