Unhappy Parakeet - Possible Tumor - Help For Sky

Please view photos I uploaded to the Budgie/Parakeet section. Just saw this for first time today from my sister-in-law. Sky's their 8-year-old Parakeet family pet, very special to my nieces. No change in droppings or behavior. Growth started approx. 6 months ago. Will look for avian vet in Fresno, CA first thing in the morning. Not sure if Sky is male or female. Could this be eggs or is it a tumor? Do they operate on Parakeets? Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!! P.S. If anyone has a recommendation for an avian vet in Fresno, please advise.

By the color of his cere, he's a boy. That looks pretty nasty....I'd get him into a avian vet ASAP !! He could use a nail trim as well. Looks like they are starting to corkscrew. I also noticed some poop by his vent....make sure his vent isn't blocked. Looks like a tumor to me, a nasty one at that.

Good luck, keep us updated.

I agree.,..and I'm so sorry! Does look like a tumour and a very nasty one. Since it has been there for a while, it is certainly not an aggressive cancer ( like lymphoma which can appear practically overnight and kill very quickly), but cancer is the major cause of death in budgies.
From my understanding, and the times I've had to deal with tumours and birds, operating is not really a viable option. They are awfully small little creatures and the stress of the operation, let alone getting all the tumour, would most likely be too much for them. In addition, the tumour is probably not just on the surface, but goes into the body which means attempting to remove it could bring the doctor perilously close to major organs. In a bird, it's all so close.....
Obviously, take the little fellow to the vet and see their prognosis. I hope I am mistaken about all this.....it just looks too familiar.

can't say anything that people haven't already said - vet is the only option
