Does your avian vet have a community bulletin board? Maybe you could try to rehome him through there...

And honestly: I'd like to see where anyone could get a hand-raised & human socialized baby 'zon for $450. I don't care if you work for Tufts or not: I cry BS!

I don't know Jasper's situation but I hope that you are able to find a solution that works for you and him both.

((((HUGS)))),

Thank you--my thoughts exactly! Not to mention the fact that he'd come with a cage. Oh well--Jasper stays with me for awhile. And thank you for the kind thoughts.

My thoughts exactly!! I'm sorry, but an amazon baby for $450 - very very unlikely regardless of who you work for. A lot of these people are going to do and say whatever they can to get the price nice and low.

When advertising it is so hard and almost impossible to know who are talking to and if they are being honest or not. So many times it will feel like you are talking to a wonderful very experienced animal lover and a week or so later you will see the same bird posted again for a few hundred more. More times then not if they are not willing to pay the rehoming fee then they are more then likely going to just end up re selling for a profit. A rehoming fee is a given when adopting a pet and if they aren't willing to pay it then they should just move and look else where, but alot of these people are not animal lovers and just looking to make some extra money. I hate people like that - these are living animals!!!!!!

Anyway, I feel your pain and only wish you the best of luck. I have rehomed a few birds in the past and gone through this BS with so many people. I will be honest with you - most of the emails I got were just crap and I would just delete them and not respond. If I felt they were scammers, looking to make a quick buck, or what not I would just delete the email and move on.

On another note - I really dislike craigslist and I actually hardly ever visit that site anymore. I just found that site was full of BS. I do however use Kijiji.com which in case you haven't heard of it is just like craigs list, but I have found much better people there. You will still get some scams and such, but most of the things I have sold - birds, bird cages, supplies, etc. have all been sold from people contacting me through kijiji. It's worth a try to make an ad there if you haven't already. I tend to use that site the most for buying and selling.

On another note - I wish you and Jasper the best of luck. I understand having to rehome a bird because it is not a right fit and while it is a hard thing sometimes it just needs to be done. I pray for Jasper that he will get an excellent forever home to call his own. Good luck to the both of you!!!

You actually CAN get certain types of amazons for around the 450-500 mark, but I can't verify the quality of the bird nor its socialization.
Whether she was from Tufts or not, whether she could get a bird for that amount or not, is really irrelevant. If you didn't FEEL right about her response or any of the others, that means that they aren't the right person for Jasper. Instinct goes a long way and we often don't listen to our intuition.
I agree that bird clubs and stores may be another way to find a home for your baby and the regular old classified in the newspaper.
It is no doubt insanely frustrating to consistently deal with people who are full of crap and it would make me VERY angry to know that these people really don't care and are only out for themselves and not the bird. Don't give up....just pursue different avenues....you will just have to be more patient.

Savagem13, I think you should wait, like you said. Jasper does not deserve to roam freely in the back yard, even if its fenced(meaning-the crazies have shown up and want jasper to hoard, breed or make a fast buck either way jasper looses big time). Spend time in the same room with him, whats the worse that could happen, you too could come to an understanding, and might just slowly build a relationship. Good luck wishes headed your way..

Thanks everyone, for your words of support. I have someone coming over tomorrow evening to meet Jasper. He sounds like a fairly normal person, and he sounds willing to pay what I'm asking. So we'll see how Jasper reacts and go from there. If that person doesn't feel right, I'll probably move on to different avenues of advertising. Someone suggested joining an amazon chat board, which I think is an awesome idea. Might try kijii as well. I'm not in a hurry, and I'm going to do my best to do right by Jasper.
