tiels throwing stuff out of nestbox !!!!

hello all.
i have a pair of tiels that are throwing stuff out of the nestbox.. im not sure which one is doing it.. male or female but the bottom of cage has shavings and wood on the cage floor.. why are they doing this ?? does it matter which one is doing it ???? tina in ohio

That's normal. They will throw it out and "re-decorate" until it is how they want it.

maybe try using shredded papaer instead? maybe they do't like the shavings.

i mean is this a sign of getting eggs or ??? they never threw stuff out of the box before and i was wondering WHY they are doing this now ?? tina in ohio....

Yes, they will do that before they lay eggs.

using the wrong nesting material. I breed tiels and have the most success with Peat Moss. Can buy it at your local nursery. Its soft and the tiels love it. I wouldnt use shredded paper they wont like it. Try peat moss, I guarantee you success.

nesting

your tiels are nesting... they usually do it when the nesting material is too much.. mollucans do it too.. its alright that they are the ones to adjust and set what is right for them.. if you moss is not available... wood shavings in my case is fine... because its hard to acquire moss here..
