I know Pepper is not a Mitred, and can't compare, but I had to go measure him...LOL He is exactly 13 inches and 152 grams....

You would think his weight would be not bad at that but when the AV gave him his checkup she found that he was under and his little keil bone is sticking out. She had a generalized sheet for conures so, she told me either she or I could research breed specific info, to know exactly where he should be at. I said I would look it up.

I checked webpage "standards" and they said cherry heads are between 164 and 184 grams.

Monica?? You said your litlle guy is around the same wieght as mine, so we must only be 5 grams under at most. I bet if I tried for another 10 to 20 I would have to roll him out of his cage with a wheelbarrow... LOL

I think you know more about them than most of the info on the web pages... What do you think Monica... is his weight not so bad???

Now I'm hijacking your post Robyn LOL...

Like I always say "There's nothing like a Conure"

I've met a few wildcaught cockatoos... They are a hoot, and absolutely hilarious and *VERY* sweet! If Dudly is indeed a wildcaught conure (unlikely he'd be a pet before importation) then he'd be at least 16 years old. I am wondering though now about the round leg bands, and I'll see if I can do some research on them. Judging by size, I'd almost guess he ought to be about 250 grams!

HHz, Noel is usually about 150-160 grams. At 9pm Pacific time, she is 154 grams, and is NOT overweight. However, some other cherry head owners have said that she's small, so Pepper may indeed be somewhat larger and should thus weigh more. I haven't actually measured her length, however. I can't directly answer your question as I can't personally tell if Pepper is a good weight or not. I've seen both large and small B&G's and GW macaws. The difference in their sizes is almost astounding, yet if the smaller bird weighed as much as the larger one, the smaller bird would be obese! Likewise, if the larger bird weighed as much as the smaller one, it would be underweight. Like humans, birds do have varying body builds, and thus varying amounts of weight!

Thanks Monica for the reply.... I really appreciate all the time you take. I guess the bottom line is if the kiel isn't protruding anymore, he's good.
