Oh boy... I is in trouble now!

Ok... quick replay of how I got these guys...

My little Tequila was gone... so I went to the flea market on Sunday with my mother and daughter. (My kid stays at her house in the summer. It is about 6 miles away and has a 10ft deep pool with diving board and slide... I cannot even BEGIN to compete with that. Downside... I see my kid a lot less in the summer. Or was that the upside... I forget! LOL)

Guy there heard us talking and wanted to know if we wanted some birds. He had conures... "one with a blue head and one with some red on it".

I called him on Tuesday (figured looking never hurts. Was planning on MAYBE taking what I assumed would be a BCC.) We (my daughter and I) drove all the way out and I HAD to get the birds. Granted, from the pictures I saw after the fact... they had roomy cages at home and a few toys (I admit I go overboard... one step shy of "crowding" the cage. I think it is latent guilt over a bad childhood and having to leave them while I go to work each day.)

When we got there, we found a BCC in a travel cage made for a small rabbit. The carrier was sitting on top of a milk crate that was over a CherryHead/Mitered (no way to tell that I know of as it is supposely only a year old) that was sitting on the cold tile floor!

The guy told me how mean and viscious they were. At wich point my 4'8" daughter (RexysMom) immediate ly went over, uncovered, and picked up the CHC! I got the BCC out... only to find out he was fully flighted and a chase insued. Once caught, the BCC snuggled up against my chest and tried to take a nap! The CHC was busy purring to my daughter and pinning his eyes for all he was worth!

We gave the guy $125 in cash and a $125 check and left.

cont...

I have a MONSTER on my hands! LOL

They are complete opposites in personality. And HATE each other (which I had already been warned about.)

The BCC has yet to be handled again (we got them Tuesday). He freaks out when I change his food and water and I don't want to push him.

The CHC on the other hand has decided I am the best thing since sliced bread! He refuses to eat unless I am eating (or so it seams), clings to whatever part of the cage is nearest me, regurgitates on me when I get him out after work, "beats" me with his tongue like a jackhammer (is this normal for these guys?), and last night he tried to full on chase and attack the dog when she laid down next to me to watch tv (the first time she has been allowed near me since "the accident".

I was totally unprepared for this bird to bond so darn quick! He also likes to lay upside-down in my lap for HOURS being scritched. He has no clue how to play with toys unless you count playing catch and throw.

This is gonna be fun. <sigh> LOL

Who can tell me more about CHCs? It almost seems to me that these guys are more like a small Amazon than anything else!

LOL well, that's what i call fate - and i see you're already having a ball with those two.... in regards to the BCC - give him some time... i have nino for 8 months now, and he's finally decided that my hand is NOT going to kill him - so instead of frantically running away, he now bites it ... but i'm glad, as just that little step took 8 months - so you might be in for the long training haul

congratulations - to you, and those 2 lucky birds

I am trying to see it that way. As otherwise... I was NOT getting any more birds... PERIOD. I was holding out for ONE more VERY special bird... and these guys would NOT have made the short list at the time! Perhaps they needed me more than Tequila. It still hurts though.

I am seriously thinking of naming them Gin and Tonic... making my screen name "Addicted to Gin & Tonic". I am not sure I am truly addicted to them yet... but That CHC is getting close!

It is too funny... as I don't really drink. But we did have fun joking at work that I cannot have Tequila at work. Now I can run home at lunch for Gin and Tonic!
