Question Candles?

Hello all :) Have a question I'd love to get some opinions on. I remember reading somewhere before I got Pedro (a parrotlet) that you should never burn scented candles in the house where the bird lives. Anyone else ever hear anything about this? I LOVE my yankee candles, but of course we love Pedro so much more and don't want to do anything that will hurt him. Thanks for any feedback!

Not only are scented candles an issue with psittazens, but many candles have a metal wire in the centre of the wick. When burned this metal is vapourised, and can lead to very serious health problems for the feathered ones. (Possibly for humans as well, but not yet documented)

Candles with metal wicks are generally candles manufactured outside the US, and are generally made of lead, which is why they are banned here. Yankee candles, Home & Garden candles, Partylite are manufactured with safe burning wicks.

There are many articles about the pro's and cons of burning candles in the home. I personally, choose to burn Yankee candles in my home, but I do not do it in the same room as my fildren, and also make sure I maintain the wicks at proper levels. There are also articles pertaining to the scented oils used in the candles releasing toxins into the air.

Burning candles is a personal choice in my opinion. I burn them..

I burn candles all the time here, and have for the past several years, with no ill effects to anyone....

The subject of candles is something that I'm saddened by. I am a huge lover of candles, and everyone around me know this. I receive several candles a year as gifts. It's not a problem right now, since I don't have any fids. But that day will come very soon (I hope). Right now, since I'm in a small(ish) apartment, I think I'd hold off on burning candles.

I personally burn Yankee Candles. I always light them in my Kitchen or Family Room. These rooms are located on the first floor of our home. Our Fildren have their own room located on our Second Floor. They are no where close to where we light our candles.

I have heard they can be dangerous to birds, so I would never recommend lighting them in the same room, or even the next room over (just in case).
