Ok I know this is going to be a stupid question but what is the difference between a TAG and CAG? I mean I am assuming they are from different places but what are their differences...

And when you bring him home, we want pics :)

Your Echo is sooo cute. I love TAGs, though I think they are underrated because they're small. They have such big personalities I think, and they are just adorable.

He's been dna sexed so yes, he's a male! He's a sweetie pie. Today I got what I think is some good news about Martin. They say the past couple days he is no longer wanting to accept the hand-feedings, so they have been monitoring him. Normal weight, and he's been eating quite a bit of food out of the bowl, so this could mean he might be ready to come home soon! I've also learned how to hand feed him, and mix the food properly. It's a lot easier than I thought, though he wasn't really interested in eating it when I fed it to him- more like playing with it and chewing the syringe!

vle1170, it's not a stupid question at all! TAGs are smaller, darker in colour and have a dark tail instead of the bright red tail of a CAG. The CAGs tend to be bigger, lighter coloured feathers, and I believe have a darker beak. As far as personality, I THINK they are basically the same. I have heard some say that TAGs tend to be less likely to have neurotic behaviours, and generally more laid-back but I can't say if that's true or not because Martin is the only African Grey I've had any experience with!

OH goodie!! Hope he keeps his weight up so he can come home.

Beastiephile You had it right on with the differences. A TAG's tail feathers are more of a maroon color and the beak is bone colored while a CAG's is black. The TAG tends to be more of a family bird and the CAG is known to pick one and only one family member to be their person. TAG'S are also supposed to be less likely to feather pic and will talk sooner then the CAG. The CAG will sound exactly like the person or sound they have learned while the TAG can have a more childlike voice.

vle1170 No question here is a stupid question. We all love our birds and thrive on learning and sharing as much as possible about them!
