Question Air Freshners & the like...

I am sure this must have been discussed a thousand times before but I am not finding it. :-(
With all the new automatic sprayer air freshners that are out, are any of them bird safe? Lysol & Airwick make a automatic sprayer thingy box-a-ma-job ;-) and they emit a squirt in the air every ? minutes you set it at. I am a xtreme-couponer and have got a bunch of these for only a 1.00 but am afraid to use them in our house because of our Grey.
Also, is there a safe scented candle? I really love peoples houses that smell good and have wished for years I could use something. Please help me put the myths of all this to rest. Thank you so-so much for this board. I really appreciate it even though I am mostly a lurker.
PS. Myhouse doesn't stink, btw. I just am really into fragrant smells.

The fragrances in candles, air fresheners and room deodorizers (sprays, solids, plug-ins, etc.) may be too much for a bird's sensitive respiratory system.

Personally, I'd err on the side of caution and not use them in your home. Not only for the safety of your birds (and other pets) but for human health as well. I used to LOVE Glade Plug-ins and had one in each room of my apartment prior to bringing home Beetle. Once I stopped using them, I noticed that my eyes didn't water nearly as much, and my near-constant drippy nose stopped running!

There are all sorts of "home remedies" and natural means of creating a pleasant scent in your home. Here are some examples: Green air fresheners.

To give fair warning: some of the options listed above include the use of essential oils. I am not sure if they are bird-safe.

There's plenty of threads on the subject of natural ways to freshen up your home...

Yea. Thanks for the links to the threads. I really do love when I walk in someones house and they have scented candle smell, air freshners or anything fragrant going on. I love my Grey more though so I will just have to go visit others more.

Hi There!
I was really into aromathearapy until I got my birds and found out that they are extremely sensitive to essential oils as well as any sort of air and carpet fresheners. I use a small pot and simmer apples and cinnimon sticks...it smells like a pie is in the oven and it safe for the babies as well.

Now thats a good idea. I'll have to check flowers that birds can eat and then look for something like the sticks in the form of scent maybe if that makes sense. I hope I'm not giving the impression I have a stinky house. lol. I just am one of those people who are really into smells. Have over 75 fragrances. (perfumes) Thanks to all who have posted.

No Sorry, not safe - air fresheners or scented candles.... I use a bit of cinnamon in a not teflon pot on the stove simmering gently. It smells like cooking all warm and wonderful.
