goodness mom for the last time....

the cage we have is NOT big enough for a conure.
i keep telling her but she won't listen. oh well, i'll buy the bigger cage myself if i have to.

I made an amazing discovery last night. my mom is really concerned about our incoming birds health and safety, beside the fact she does not want to spend more money on a cage. I mention teftlon last night i asked her if she liked it, and she said no. she knows teftlon is a risk to all of us in the house and wants to get rid of it.
any tips on convincing my mom that our cage(which is only just big enough for a budgie) is not big enough for a conure? the neighbor we bought the cage from kept a tiel it, but i think conures need more space

I hope it's one of the smaller conures. Absolute minimum would be 20"w x 20"d x
36"h for a small conure.
Get your mom to read some of the posts.

One Conure the size of a GCC to the smaller Aratingas (suns) can be easily housed in a 18"x18"x18" cage -IF- it gets a lot of outside time, but I would consider this a temporary situation but certainly it will be doable until you can afford to go bigger. 20" is better. Height isn't a big consideration for Conures, unlike ground feeders like Grass Keets. New World birds prefer length and width over height because they're not soil foragers, they're canopy birds.

Measure your cage though, and go bigger if possible. Adequate cages aren't that expensive if you stay away from the bells and whistles. It's more economical for your mother to shell the bucks out for an inexpensive but roomy cage now, than to equip a cage now and get a new one later.
