Bird skins and feathers on Ebay

http://stores.ebay.com/JTV-Feather_W...QQftidZ2QQtZkm

12 pages in fact. Check out what the Parrot feathers are going for. He also has a few Parrot skins.
There is just something ... wrong with this.

your right there is something wrong. you might explain the feathers away. bird do molt but you can never explain away the skins which leads me to beleive the feathers was removed from the bird only after they killed it
isent there a rule on ebay against this?

How disgusting! Yeah there IS something wrong....morally wrong! I keep telling people that say Ebay's policy is not to sell birds, but they do it anyway. But for some reason they don't believe me. Now I know someone checks out what people are selling when they engage in the contract with Ebay....so how innocent is Ebay? NOT!!!

Man, I can see getting feathers. But Parrot Skins? According to him they died of natural causes. That is a whole lot of "natural causes". What does he save them up for 10 years and sell them all at one time? I think not.

How many birds would he have to have to have that many die from natural causes. I want to puke as I cannot imagine those poor lovies and others being killed and slaughtered. For a few stupid dollars.

The sad part is that I checked his feedback and people, lots of people actually are buying this stuff. Ewwww. I cried a few days ago when I buried my sweet little cocktiel Bonnie. I can't believe giving her to someone to butcher her body and sell her parts off.

After reading your comments I think I will refrain from checking out the site.
I will say, though, being the e-bay junkie that I am, that if e-bay doesn't get a report they really don't have a clue as to what is being sold! The best thing to do when we run across this crap is to report it to e-bay.

Here is what he said in one of his auctions:

Please note that I am in the business of buying and selling skins and feathers. I purchase the deceased birds from people that raise the birds. They may have died from catching a draft, got to cold or warm, old age, taken by predator (cat, dog, wildlife, etc.), flying into window or fan, broken leg, bad feed, or whatever the case. I just want to let you know that I purchased the bird or ready deceased or feathers loose, gathered by the breeders. I then sort or skin the birds myself. I DO NOT put down any of the birds or pull the feathers from live birds. All the house type birds came from breeders from here in the Midwest. I do not mean to offend anybody with these bird skins. I am just trying to help people find the feathers that they would like to have for the crafts that they make. Selling items this way makes it easier for crafters to get the feathers that are hard to find in molt. I will be more then happy to answer any questions.

You are bidding on one full parakeet - bluish green and yellow in color.

tail about 4".........

Tho I do find it completely appauling.. I suppose there are some odd folks out there who actually have a need for something like this..

I suppose perhaps for taxidermy reasons or ceremonial headresses, or perhaps even to rebuild damaged science museum pieces?

We need to remember there are two sides to every coin...they just don't happen to be in MY pocket either!!

Actually, like Laurie said, nobody checks the contents of the auctions when they sign up. Everything's automated. There are just too many auctions for eBay employees to look closely at each one. They rely on the comunity to bring "bad" auctions to their attention. Once eBay determines that something is against their policy, they will pull it down right away. Until their notified, though, the auction goes on.

Is there someone who reads every post on this site before it's put up? No because that would be silly and waaay too time-consuming. When somebody reports the rare offensive post it's taken down or edited. Same with eBay and just about every other user-content site.

If you're that offended at the bird skins, report them. If eBay gets enough complaints and it's against their policy they'll take it down. I don't know enough about their policies to say whether this is illegal or not, but I have a feeling that it's kosher, though right on the limit.

I have seen this e-bay seller's auctions for years because we do alot of native american crafting and furrier work. So I browse for skins, feathers and pelts often..... I thought it very disturbing that he had companion bird skins and sent him a message and got back pretty much the same canned response. Ok...I've seen people post that they contribute their molted feathers to crafters and such. Bird and animal skins are common auctions, so I really dont' feel that this person is violating any ebay policy.
Animal skins, sporting bird skins and such...common across the web. This makes me shudder, but I don't feel anyone has the right to censor his right to sell to people who don't have the same delicate sensibilities.

They eat dogs in China....but not in my house.
