A flight suit only works to keep bird poo off of you, and, with a harness, keeps the bird from flying off. If your birds wings are NOT clipped, and is NOT wearing the harness/leash to the flight suit then there is still a chance that he can take off.
There is the bird harness, similar to those used with rabbits, and ferrets, though meant for birds, and also needs a leash on it to keep birds safe...

I had my Eckie trained to a flight suit, but I did that when she was 8 months old. Getting an older bird to wear one is always a struggle. Much like trying to harness a cat. It can be done, but its a fight. I actually prefer the flight suits to the harnesses, but as Heather explained, both can give a false sense of security. I cannot use either on my macaws. I have seen steer ropers have less problems than I do when I try to harness them.
