AyatLeila's Progress

BS"D

Some of you will remember the juvenile Scarlet Macaw (Ara Macao) that I received from a breeder (from whom I was owed an offspring for 18 years) about 7 weeks ago. After testing she was found to be infected with pseudomonas, eschirichia coli, & suffering from zinc poisoning accompanied by liver abnormalities. She had plucked her breast & back bare, removed all of her wing coverts, as well as breaking of four flight feathers on each wing (closest to the body). The breeders insisted that their vet had told them that none of these disorders/infections needed to be treated.

After being medicated (with piperacillin, amakacin & ciprofloxacin) and given a beautiful new cage, soft rope perches, a "fun" ring to sleep in, & big parrot pinatas, here is how she now looks,

and here, noshing on her toy:

I look forward to seeing the (so called) breeders vet in a deposition next month, to see if, under oath, he will claim that none of the troubles she suffered from needed treating. Should be fun. As the Klingons of science fiction fame say, "Revenge is a dish best served cold".

WEll, I could just give you a big smooch! What a guy! I'm proud to call you a friend, and so is she. I need all of your magic tricks for my poor Mia. I'm still waiting for a consultation with the vets interested in doing a study on her and her chemo exposure link.

I'm so happy for you.

Ditto on the sentiments!
What a pretty little lady and most fortunate to have you in her life.
Congratulations on your, as the Klingons would say, Kaplach (Victory) over her illnesses. :icon_mrgr

Outlaw: *blushing from the e-buss* I wish I could see Mia & offer whatever help I could. She is in my thoughts. Perhaps one day I will be out in your "neck-of-the-woods", & will be able to meet all of your psittazens.
LissaKokoKiwiKaseySam: A month, 40 injections, 20 oral administrations of medicine, & lots of loving care. That's what I'm here for, advanced Macaw management. The most expensive job you will ever love ! Thanks for the "missed me" note, very sweet. I have simply been rather wrapped up in the birdies & some business affairs *blech, agh, ptui!*. Much to the dismay of some, I am here to stay, pending internet outage, or keev intervention.
Graehstone: Q'plaH to you too. (I have now offically reached the limit of my Klingon fluency). I look forward to her first adult molt. Her tail feathers have stress bars every 3 millimetres. My vet has never seen anything like it. some of the stress bars are so bad, that whole sections of feather have fallen from the central shaft. Thankfully, she is doing quite well now. Her current favourite activity is flying in a circle from one room to the other, ending with an eight talon landing on my head. (Thank G*d for kippah!)

I'm glad to know she's doing better. She looks like a real sweetheart. I'm looking forward to hearing what happens at the deposition.
