You're right- definitely a no no.
It mildews and you cant monitor droppings.

wow

Thank you for sharing. I never knew that we use corn cob and walnut shells in the bottom of the cage. It was recommended by the pet store.

IMO don't ever listen to what is recommended from the pet store, unless it's a well known bird specialty store and even then double check until you know you can believe them. Pet stores are in it for the money so they tell you that you should use it. I mean who doesn't believe the pet store people? After all, they work there so they should know what they are talking about.

Thanks

Well i have been going there for five years. They have always been more than helpful and knowledegable loving people. They just must have wrong information. We visit once a week and they all love on the babies all the time. I just thought they knew the best.

I will definately talk to Jessica and let her know its not a good thing.

Many pet stores, particular chain pet stores, have policies that they 'must' follow. This may include doing something unhealthy to the animals environments to save money.. that or doing the 'bare minimum' required, thus again, saving money. Most often, they don't make much profit on the animals because they have to shell out the money to keep the animals fed and cared for. Therefore, they like to find ways to save money. Feeding them is usually pretty cheap, as well!

Do the research. Find out the good and the bad before making an educated decision on your own. And most importantly, don't "assume" anything with birds!
