Yes, the vet that they always go to (the one that saved Sunny's life) is a very good certified avian vet. But it is about an hour away, and I thought it'd be a lot easier on them to just take them to a local vet for such things as a simple nail trim. Anyway, they won't be going back there. The boys are perfectly happy today and it sure is a lot less painful to hold them now!

Wow, all I can say is that I would have left after the vet showing how incredibly uneducated about birds she was. I am aware that there are only a handful of vet schools in the country with an "exotic vet" program (UT and I think three or four others) but I still think that if that particular vet is going to see birds in her practice she should at least take the time to read up on popular pet bird species. If vets are not willing to educate themselves about parrots in general, they shouldn't offer to see people's birds. Simple as that.

I keep reptiles as well, and had a similar story with them. I had a $1200 green tree python that needed emergency vet care one night, and took it to the local exotic animal hospital. The vet was going through the motions of asking husbandry questions and asked me what type of UVB lighting I was using. I looked at her blankly and said: "Lizards need UVB lighting, not snakes. Snakes need heat lamps or tape." She goes "Oh, yeah that's right."

LMAO!

A vet that doesn't know her herps... and you brought her a greenie? Oh... THAT musta been a riot! After all... they are such sweet natured and docile snakes. Closest I ever got to owning something with that much attitude was my D'Albert's. Had to take care of one once. Two weeks was enough! LOL
