my first bird was a sulpher crested cockatoo i bought him almost on impulse and i put down a deposit ( i worked in a pet store back then) and went to work, looked through catalogues for a nice big cage from one of my suppliers, went and picked it up from them myself and paid wholesale price for it :) was awesome. he was paid for all in cash. i also boght him a 6foot outdoor aviary for nice days :)

with the GCC's we bought cages from another pet store.. paid full price for two and then gave away one bird with the cage to my friend. by this time i was then working in that same pet store and i got my baby Boo for $900 and got his cage also at wholesale pricing.

then i got another cage that was slightly damaged for FREE from one of my suppliers. IT'S HUGE!! boo loves it i can fit soooo many toys in it lol... costs me a fortune to fill it up!!!

it definately makes life easier when you get a discount!!! i'll be working in pet stores the rest of my life heheh

lots of my purchases were done on credit card including my bird so i could get him a day earlier, but then paid it back on as soon as the cash came through...

I bought my first large bird and cage from two large chain petstores. Paid for on credit (not the cage) and learned how stupid I was over time. That cage is the cheapest peice of crap I own now but I got lucky with Lizzy. I probably have as much in a Macaw, three greys, a BF Amazon and various small birds. One large Kings cage One double Macaw and One double stack (large) in excellent condition (kings has been refurbed) And large small bird flight cages (3) and another Macaw size and three other older parrot sized cages for outdoor cages. All scammed from CL or Bird fairs and one freebie from the humane society when they knew I rescued. I just keep my eyes WIDE open for deals and know where to look. I am able to do most of my Maintenance vetting (ie, vaccinations one dogs and horses, injury repair and meds, grooming both dogs and nails, wings, beaks) and can handle many minor illnesses from years of exp and past vet tech exp. Now toys are difficult now that I dont get them Wholesale but We work around it by Making new and rehabbing old parts and Bird fairs. Heck, the three large , small bird flights aLL MATCH AND i GOT THEM FROM two DIFFERENt yard sales!

I may not have a large bird but we did buy her a larger cage. We bought it at a pet store that had it discounted because one of two poop drawers was bent. The cage was $399 orig discounted to $199, so when we got it home we contacted the company that made it so we could buy a new drawer. Well because they took so long to verify our purchase etc they gave us a replacment drawer for free!

One cage was free, 2 others from yard sales & Poppy's Kings came from Craigs List. The only cage I bought new was his travel cage.

Paris, first Timneh came with her cage, both free. Poppy & Ziggy we paid off on installments.

My husband's first BFA had issues so he was offered the bird if he bought the cage. Worked out well he had her for 20+ years.

I saved for all mine. most of my guys are rehomes. Some cages I was given to use, until I could save up for others. I dont like to use the CC for purchases like that. I use my CC's for vet bills. Thats the only one I have a monthly payment on due to some of Miss Emma's recent medical issues.
