Presenting Rudy!!

So here is Rudy the White Fronted Amazon. We made it home safe and sound with him last night and he's doing pretty good. He came right out of his cage this morning and stepped right up for us last night when we moved him from the carrier to his cage. His cage needs some work but he did have a couple of toys. He's also chunky from eating nothing but seed for the last six - seven years. He took right to the pellets though when we put them in his cage last night so hopefully it will be an easy transition. Here are a couple of pics of him. He's a bit camera shy so I hope to get some better ones soon!

He is sooooooooooo tiny it's hard to believe he is an Amazon! I wish I could get a picture of him with one of the red heads to show just how small he is. He's only about 10 inches tall!!! He's really adorable and we fell in love with him at first sight. Kind of neat to have a "mini" amazon!

The night was sad too though. The couple that asked us to take him in is moving from here, CO, to Missouri at the end of October and the apartment they are moving in to will only allow one bird and they have an U2 that they decided to take instead of Rudy. They are living with the man's parents right now who also own a DYH. Both of the birds are eating seed and fruits and veggies and junk food and both cages could have used a cleaning. Not really really bad but bad. The Father of the man is very ill and they cannot figure out what is wrong with him so they asked us if we would be willing to take in the DYH if the kids were unable/unwilling (she really really hates their son) to take her. That DYH is the fattest birdie I have ever seen in my life!! so I can only imagine how much her life has been shortened by the terrible food they have been giving her. She's also locked in her cage all day because she used to have free roam but started to chew up the baseboards and various other things in the home so they don't let her out anymore. So obviously, we told her if she needed us to let us know and we'd be happy to help out. I felt really bad for the other birds and tried to explain to them the benefits of pellets but not sure it worked. I heard the same old "my bird won't eat them" that everyone else tells me who feeds seed. Also explained to them why corn cob bedding is bad.

Anyway... another day in the adventure that is our life LOL. We also got the "wrought iron" cage that was offered to us and it's not really a cage... it was home made out of wrought iron handrails for stairs for sugar gliders. It's been painted and the paint on the bottom is peeling so while we did take it, I doubt it will ever see birds.

She doesn't want to take the bird away from her hubby until absolutely necessary... so she is going to let us know when and if. We already explained to her that we won't be able to drop everything and head up there and she understood. They were very nice people... just not bird savvy.

His colors really are beautiful and he's really sweet... not at all aggressive and you can walk right up to his cage and he'll just sit there. He's already out napping on top! I just can't believe how tiny he is!! I never knew that Amazon's got were that small LOL He makes Alfie and Pedro look huge!

And I will get more pics soon :) He's still a bit camera shy and since we didnt get home till 1am, I wanted to let him get a few more snoozes in.

Oh and he makes the cutest little noises!! He's not even as noisy as the other Amazon's and... he doesn't smell like stinky feet!! LOL

LOL Chris, I have that same affliction. I think it must be one of the symptoms of MBS!
