Id love to be able to do it. My scaley is unclipped but he's never been able to fly for some reason, we take him outside all the time. One of my house tiels escaped a few years ago, she was in the kitchen and I decided to go get some seed from outside for her, just as I opened the back door she came flying around the corner and straight out the door, happened so quick didnt know what hit me. Anyway she circled the house maybe twice before a Currawong knabbed her and flew away with her upside down and squawking her head off. It was so awful, Id be too afraid of my bird being taken by predators again.

Monica,
Having only had him for a year it is hard to answer your question. I do not know what he was like for the other six years. Very little history came with him other than I was going to be his 4th known home. He came in a beat up white cage that had no paint left on 90% of the bars, 1 plastic toy, nothing to chew on, and eating only sunflower seeds. He was also being sold as a green cheek conure believe it or not! The ad also stated wings and nails were just done and this was also a lie. My heart sank when I went to view him, I took him in immediately. He bonded to me very quick, the first day he would not let me come anywhere near him, but would scream if I left the room. The second day he came out of his cage on his own and flew to my shoulder, we have been best friends since. Our progress over the year has been phenomenal, but I can’t state we wouldn’t have bonded this close if he were clipped and had never flown, who knows how things would have played out. He does love to fly, and gets excited when he knows hes coming out so he obviously loves it. We have only had four outdoor flights at this point and its starting to get to cold so that may be it until spring. My other birds have indoor flight only, I’d never trust them outside. |
