I have the room, so I do what I can for birds that happen to come to me under less than optimal circumstances. I also get rid of the little buggers as soon as I find good homes for them too, if possible lol. Breeding offsets a pretty much all of my vet costs, and while it sounds like I have a huge amount of breeders, I make sure that they aren't over-bred and get a lot of down-time between clutches. The little monsters eat far better than I do, that's for sure. It's a steady 'income', and covers all my costs plus a bit more. My actual job is artistic in nature; I'm an illustrator lol.

I think it is awesome that you are able to do that and even though you have those breeders you still help out other birds!

I don't think 50 sounds like many... our local small bird breeder has at least 200 quakers... probably 50 tiels... and a whole bunch of other birds. I don't see how she does it!

50 isn't a lot, when you breed, but it looks big! lol

I have a good amount of land, so I'm able to house some of these rehabs. I think most anyone who is on this BB would do the same if they could. We're all a bit crazy. Some of them, I manage to get free care for. I have one bird that needs about 300 in meds a month, and it's donated by my vet. So, I'm really lucky.
