wasabi wont roll yet but he is comfortable falling backwards while holding onto my finger
which i thought was odd since it seems like it would feel safer to go forward lol
he complains sometimes when i lay him on his back but he always falls asleep and never bothers to get UP
he just grunts and growls a couple times
looks silly when he could just get up on his own

Dudders is willing to let me use him as a rolling pin if I want to make birdie bread! LOL

I still have the pics of my black and blue arm from the first week i had him though. Yes... a truly ticked off Mitred is not a "bluffer". He has some issues with stepping up due to his poor muscle tone prob and a really "beak-shy" past owner. Hesitation when asking for a step-up... and worse, being so afraid that you withdraw your hand... is one of the worse things that you can "teach" your bird.

He ends up learning two things:
1) If I want to get out of this cage or get some physical attention I better grab hold for all I am worth before that hand disappears again!
2) If I want to be left alone, all I have to do is bite and release and she will go away!

Both of these are VERY bad ideas for a bird to have!

Those ideas are why I've learned to just take the bite and not make a big deal out of it. I'm starting to realize that I'm going to have to take some bites from Minga (GULP!) if I'm ever going to get anywhere with her although she has started finally speaking to me the last couple of days once she realizes that I really am bigger than her and I'm not going to just run off when she lunges at me.

Well if it's a process... I guess the fact that Tuck Tuck is learning to let me hold him on his back without totally flipping out is a step in the right direction!

Oh my gosh I can't wait until my Sun is like that with us!!!

No fair!! :)

I know he has the potential to be a really sweet bird...

When we were leaving him alone and not asking him to come out of his cage, my fiancee reached in there just to pet and he stepped right now.... he started chirping and giving SO many kisses!

Then he wanted back in and did NOT want to come out after that!! lol

He likes to go at his own pace that's for sure!!

I'm just happy I still have my fingers! The past few days I've just been feeling bad for him, I feel like he doesn't get much attention because he doesn't really want to come out.... I walk over to the cage and talk to him about every 10 mins though and just coo a little bit

*sigh* can't wait for him to trust me

Just do not, whatever you do, give him ANY attention when he is screaming! NONE! Not by letting him out, not by running to the cage to talk to him, not by giving him a treat, and not by screaming at him to be quiet!

If you go into a different room... an OCCASIONAL "I swear that I have NOT been eaten by a lion!" said quietly is ok to reassure him.

Otherwise... NOTHING. Especially if he can plainly see you and is doing it.

The honeymoon period is not yet over... but it soon will be. If you start off wrong... you will have one HECK of a screamer on your hands. And it can then become a habit that even the bird cannot control well. Screaming Suns are probably one of the number one birds at rescues. They can really be draining. Do NOT let yours get in the habit! It is really easy to prevent... a real bear to fix!

All I can tell you is I massage both of my macaws wings. It made them more comfortable with helping me preen them and I taught Newt to lift his wings for me straight in the air and hold it so I can clip them. No more stressful visits to get groomed.
I also massage their backs and legs, etc. Elliot and I are getting their with the tail, but I can touch Newt "anywhere" and do anything with him because of this practice.

My lorikeet lifts her wings when she's playing, tempting me to poke her on the red feathers there, then folds them them when I get close and nips me playfully (softly). It's a game to her :)
