Do all your birds get along?
It sucks because the story goes like this...my BCC hates all my other birds, my GCC likes to bully everyone else, my Tiel likes my other birds but can't get close because they bully him and my Budgie is too small to mingle with the big guys who I'm sure might bite his foot off!
How do you guys deal with stuff like this...(assuming you do). Consequently, everyone cannot be free ALL day because they are going to fly on each others cages and get into trouble. I am home all day but work at home so I cannot sit by their cages to watch them all day.... My Tiel's toe got bitten off by my BCC so I am very paranoid now knowing that those possibilities are not far from coming true if they wanted it! Am I the only one who has birds that REALLY don't get along? |

None of my birds like each other. They each get jealous when I'm sharing my attention. I hope this will change eventually since they haven't all known each other for very long. My female Brown-Throated Conure thinks she is the Queen of the Flock. She doesn't even realize that she is the tiniest of them all. My male Nanday likes to push the others off of my shoulder, but he thanks them for keeping his seat warm. Jack is at least 10 years old, but likes to try to push his way into the hand feedings for Rico. He will actually eat 10 CCs of parrot formula if I will allow him to!
So to answer your question, yes, I too have a small flock of birds that do not get along!

LOL...thank god! I know that is selfish... but it's nice to not feel alone...We are trying to figure a better way to keep our birds so that they get more out of cage time. It's really hard...my bf is like, "babe, is something wrong with our babies?"....hehe. I guess they just want to feel like they're the only one that gets all the love and attention!

My birds all share a room and an aviary and they coexist fine. The two Cubans are bonded, Aspen splits her time about 60/40 with Maple and Willow. I think having them all flighted helps as they can get out of one another's way easily if need be, and I don't have an issues with them not getting along.

I have a black capped conure, 2 cockatiels, 2 budgies, a zebra finch and a bourke's parakeet. They have their own room, and there's about 4 cages in that room that they all have free roam of. This sounds like a weird mix but it works out. My conure is a jerk, she's really bossy and all the other birds have accepted that they should really just stay out of her way, especially if I'm there because she has jealousy problems. She's racist against cockatiels, but they know that as long as they don't go on top of the bars of the cage she is on, they'll be fine. They can go on the play gym that is on top of the cage, but just not the BARS. I don't know why, my conure is a weirdo.
She used to hate the budgies, but she's accepted them now. She lovesss my bourke's parakeet, and tolerates my finch because he's bonded to my bourke's parakeet. They are my gay inter-species couple that I will never understand. ![]() ![]() Or I'm wrong and they've been glued like that for months and I just never noticed. They all have their squabbles and have made up rules for each other. Well, one rule: Only my conure, the bourke's parakeet and the finch are allowed on the bars on top of the cage. Everybody else gets chased off, hehe. I've always mixed my birds together. My conure is the only one that has caused any troubles, but she likes to chase, not bite. There's always a risk and I understand and accept that and the consequences that might come of it. |

I have never let any of my birds near each other, although the lady that owned my MRH Amazon and senegal said that she used to let them play together. (I think there is too much of a size difference in my opinion).
As far as letting out the birds to play, I have several T-stands or playgyms, and my birds are clipped, so most of them can be out without me worrying about them getting to each other. Usually I let the big birds out together, and then put them away and let the little birds out. My sulphur crested cockatoo has to come out on her own well away from the rest of the flock, as she is a sweetheart with people and wouldn't hurt a flea but is extremely aggressive to other birds. If she is out and can see other birds she will do anything to get to them-climb down her cage top playstand and make a beeline to try to attack the other birds through their cages. The other birds if I am not interacting with them one on one are fine to sit out on perches without me worrying about incidence. But I am very jealous of anyone who has birds that are buddies!!! I think it is cute to see birds playing or hanging out together. |

Willow, what is your Mealy like? I have had my mealy for over five years now and I have never met anyone else who had one.
Mine is quite the clown, he loves to play fetch with a ball and hang upside down in his cage and beat the snot out of his toys. He is one of my best talkers and also one of the loudest screamers in the house. Every morning and every night he practically deafens us with his flock calling, lol. He is content to talk the rest of the day, but if you go in the bird room first thing in the morning he is in there gibber gabbering and yelling his head off. |

My gcc and two tiels dont get along per se.they will share the playgym but if one violates the others space they snap at each other. The two tiels stay in the same cage and tolerate each other but are not bonded.
I have two more lutino tiels that get along okay, Im hoping to incorperate them in a few weeks with the rest the flock, we shall see how that goes.It may take even longer as these two are rather wild. |

My tiels are mates and get along fine... the budgie, they both try to ignore, even though they're cage mates. My lorikeet chases everyone else around to preen them and pounce on them.
