New member with a waring

Hi to all. My name is James and I am the proud owner of a new Grey and a new Solomin Isl. Electus. Both birds are fantastic and I am looking forward to a long and fun life with them. I purchase the grey from the Paterson Bird store in NJ and they are fantistic. Phil and his brother and crew are very helpful and willing to help with everything. I bought the Electus from the Bird Store in E. Brunswick in NJ and here inlies the problem and the warning. I am not a person to flame anyone but I do praise where I can but if I am taken advantage of I will tell others so they don't have the same issuse as I.
The Bird store tried a bait and switch with us and them threatened us with a loss of our deposit and a law suit if we didn't comply. In a nut shell, I ordered cages which I was told would be in within a few days. After my other half contacted them for the status, she was told that it would take 4 weeks for them to arrive. She was given the option of taking the floor model to which she staited that she would get back to them after she talked with me. Yesterday as we drove an hour to get to the store and were informed once that we arrive to pick up the bird possible buy a second, that they already orderd the cage and that we would half to take the floor model which was not what we wanted. Wrong color and not on the contract. This is when the threating began. If we didn't take the floor model, the store would keep our deposit and file aginst us even though we didn't ok the switch.
We took the cage and the bird after much haggleing and went on our way. The owner also stated that if we didn't purchase his food, that he would void any warentee that he previoiusly stated. This was not mentioned to us at the time of purchase which was 3 days prior to pick up.
We now have a cage that we don't want, spent more money than we antisipated but have a beautiful bird. Please be warned before you deal with this store so that this doesn't happen to you. Thanks for you time.

James

You should have said this is a bait and switch and asked to call the police then start to insist on it
You would be amazed how fast things change if you are being wronged
Course they also might have gotten violent.
Me I would have dialed 411 and asked for the number of the Attorney Generals office complaints. Right in front of the owner as I am leaving.
But that is me.

Always, always, always get things in writing... especially when buying birds. If it doesn't state you must buy their food in the contract, then they can sue you all they wish, they won't win. If you're buying a bird, or even ADOPTING a bird, have a bird contract handy. Even a generic one that you write up and sign and have them sign. That way, you always have something to fall back on.

I hope someyone tells them about this site so they know that bait and switched worked for a very short term gain.Chalk it up a bad dayand DONT go backto the store.Youd think in this economy a pet store would be thrilled to have customers spending moneyand treat them well. At least your happy with the bird so thats good.

Yes
Do NOT return to that store again.

I agree with Oscars Mom, you'd think in this kind of enconomy these guys would do everything in their power to foster a good long term relationship with what is obviously a good paying customer.....

I guess that owner came from a place that teaches it is better to teach a man how to con& threaten his neighbor out of his catch, than learn how to fish properly himself.

You can STILL go to the Better Business Bureau and file a complaint.

I would also go the local news or paper and tell my story.

They bullied you.

Thanks to all of you who have responded. I did call the BBB and filled a complaint. I did not want anything to turn violent so I just did what I thought was best. I am a business owner and I don't like getting involved with suites and legal mumbo jumbo as much as I can help it. I agree with all of you. I just dropped $1550.00 for the bird and you would think that he would have been a little more kind especially when I told him that I wanted the dwarf McCaw baby too for another $1400.00. But it is what it is. I just chalked it up to a learning experience and that is that. But I am just worried about his warrantee that he placed on the bird and I hope that he will honor it. Since I have brought him home, he doesn't stop eating. So I will stick the the Paterson Bird Store and keep it simple. Again thanks to all.
James

Make up fliers with your story and pass them out to customers as they enter or leave their establishment. I know I am ruthless (me and "geekasaurus" we would get along just fine I think). "Word of Mouth" can make or break ya'. What kind is this "Dwarf Macaw"... sounds like another scam. What does it look like? Did they say what kind of Macaw it was?
