Oh what fun major cage cleaning is!!

Yep... today is major cage cleaning day!

All I can say is hooray for hubby working a mile from the house so we can load them all up in the truck and take them down there to use the power washer! LOL That will make it much easier. The cages aren't bad... except Marti's (that thing is so hard to clean!!) which isn't bad but if you have a grey you understand the shooting poo! LOL We just clean up the pans and grates every few weeks to keep things looking nice and tidy! Only Marti and Minga's cages need to go too (oh and Tuck Tuck's cause his grate doesn't come out ). It will be an adventure!

Of course, I'm trying to figure out why we own these feathered tyrants... and why people think (non bird folks of course LOL) birds are cleaner/easier than other animals!!

its amazing how every bit of down that's floating around here ends up stuck to some poop
which then dries and makes it much more of a pain in the *ss to clean up lol

I hear ya. We bought power washers for the aviary but I kept eyeballing them for my pets inside! I finally got a smaller model for my house birds LOL. I find that power washing rope perches and boings is crazy easy. I have the type with the detergent receptacle, and fill it with diluted nolvasan. Then I power wash everything and let dry. It's a wonderful thing. Just...

Don't turn the hose end at your house.. it strips paint. /blush

LOL Oh my goodness!!!

I asked my hubby last night if it would strip the paint off the cages!

I just figure it would be way easier to just take the cages down there, hose em out toys, perches, and all and be done with it instead of taking them outside here and hosing and scrubbing.

It doesn't seem to strip the cages. Probably because powder coating is baked on, and umm.. paint on siding isn't? LOL

I love my power washers. OMG

Each spring lol... I take the big aviary one and shoot it at the chinese tallow trees around my house and get rid of all the falling pollen. Works soooo nice!

i so want a power washer
i obsessively wash off the patio
its concrete and it gets covered in dust - as does everything else here in the desert
and my son gets dirty when he plays outside so i could use it on him
LOL

(thats a joke...lulz.)

Really, Ill clean Dewey's cage over scooping the back yard or cleaning rabbit boxes any day.
I dont have a grate, so I guess that makes it easier, and I just steam clean the bars once a month. He doesnt eat his wet food in the cage so that saves me the beak wiping on the bars.
Its a lot easier to pop the perch out of the feeding stand and stick it in the dishwasher then to have to scrub down the cage lol.
