I've posted a few times in the Species specific forum about my Meyers Murray and his Meyers buddy Ollie who often stays with us. My liitle guys really made me laugh today and I thought this behavior might be interesting to others.
Murray is right footed and Ollie is a lefty. Today when they were standing shoulder to shoulder on one of their perches outside the cage I gave each a treat. Each took the treat in his beak and then shifted it to the foot. As they were standing their preferred feet were adjacent. Ollie is a quick eater and the more aggressive bird. On plenty of occasions like this when he finishes he will use his beak to grab what's left of Murray's treat, even right from Murray's beak. Today as he finished he reached over with his left foot and grabbed Murray"s treat out of his foot. Murray was quite surprised and raised his now empty foot to his beak and then looked over at Ollie and gave him a "YAK" as if to say "HEY LEFTY!".
What fascinated and surprised me was the foot-foot exchange. I'm no expert, but nor am I a neophyte. I've never seen this before. Has anybody else seen this sort of thing?
