I have a Hahns named Beaker, and he's an absolute joy! He's about 5 months old now and talks up a storm - he's saying new words every day. I can't say he gets along with my G2, but I can't say he doesn't, either. They each do a good job of pretending the other doesn't exist!

Red face Hahns Macaw

I love Hahns Macaws. We lost ours 2 years ago. I have just purchased an African Gray because I still can't get over my Hahns. He was such a wonderful bird. I am going to get one in 2009 though.......maybe. I love the breed they are funny, entertaining and very loyal. You can't go wrong. I will always miss my baby. Good luck with your new family member Great Choice.

LOL Asking a group of people with MBS who live vicariously through others may be the wrong people to ask "should we get this bird".

Just be sure to post pics of your new addition Can't wait to see him and congrats!

I have a Hahns Macaw and I am crazy about the little guy. Yes, he can be nippy. I'm starting to think it is an excitement thing and not a mean thing and it's not real hard biting where there is bruising or bleeding invovled. I just throw that out there because you will read that this is not atypical of the breed.

He does not like my African Grey and vice versa.

Dave is a very loyal bird. It's not that he won't go to other people, he just won't go to them if I am around. His happiest day in life would be spent with me all day until ten o'clock when he is ready for bed. He will do anything to be with me. I never feel unloved if with Dave around.

He is a good little talker but he's got that squeaky little Hahns voice (check YouTube to hear talking Hahns). Some days it is clearer than others. I liken it to living with a two year old where the parents know exactly what the child is saying but sometimes it's a little harder for other's to understand it.

I'll be interested to hear if you decide to get the Hahns. I can't say enough good about them. I am so lucky to have Dave but as Halo said, you won't find too many people out here telling you any bird is a bad choice.

I too have a Hahns and I think he would make a great addition to your family. They are very social and very smart funny little birds. Dewey is a mommas bird ... that is until our Blue Crown Conure pops into the play arena, then I become left out. Any other time the Dew-Man is just as content as can be to sit with me on my shoulder and preen my hair and chatter while just hanging out. They are adorable little birds with really big personalities.
