I've had birds since I was born because my family did. My Uncle raised birds and since my Aunt babysat me, I was in turn, babysat by one of their big macaws. My oldest bird died 5 years ago, she was an import YN Amazon who my family had for 40 years, and no idea how old she was when they got her.

The only time period I didn't have birds was when I was married for 2 years. I prefer the birds to a husband; less noise and cleaner. I missed the birds greatly, and pretty much spent all my free time at my parents house to be with my birds. Hmm.. perhaps that's why my marriage failed. /snicker

According to my Aunt, my 'funniest' bird problem was one year during Easter, when I was 6 years old. Since I was raised pretty marginally Christian, we did the whole Easter thing when I was little. Well, I woke up early, hunted for all the eggs, made a nest out of dishtowels and a bunch of dirt and sticks I snuck outside to gather... piled all the eggs into the 'nest' and then hauled one of our Amazons out to 'sit' on the nest. My Aunt woke up to piteous cries from the bird, and me gently holding her on the nest, telling her to sit the eggs! My Aunt saved the bird, asked me why I did it, and tearfully I exclaimed that I wanted the Easter Eggs to hatch; bunnies!

Bunnies. Heh Anyway, that's my crazy bird story.

I have had parrots off and on my whole life, started out first with a pair of budgies that were a gift to me when I was three. I got back into keeping parrots when I got out on my own, and I have had my first big bird (my amazon) ever since then, which was five years ago.

I've had birds for six years now (I'm 20)... and with each year, the flock seems to grow substantially. haha!

Hmmm... had birds since age 5.

Had my own since age 15. (not counting tiels at age 9 until then)

Did rehab/rehome fostering for 9 years without keeping any of my charges (now THAT was a miracle... and not so easy!)

I am now almost 35.

I refuse to do the math for you. LOL

March will be 33 years. I have not had one day since the age of 8 that I have not spent with a bird. my entire family had birds because of me, and so did all my friends.

I got my first bird when I was about six or seven and had birds growing up. When I got out on my own I had parakeets. Before my twins were born we had a huge aviary with six keets, two tiels, and a quaker in it. My mom was convinced that the birds would make the babies sick and she gave them away to a friend of hers at work while we were in the hospital They are still with that friend and doing well along with all of the big birds she has. Luckily, I never went to her house

We got Diddle in April and it snowballed from there...

That's so awesome all of your stories....

I really wish I would have gotton birds before. I had no idea how great they could be.

I talk about my bird at work all the time and most of my co-workers are shocked when I tell them that Jeremy loves to be scritched and cuddled!

People just don't know what they're missing!

That's funny that with most people they start out with 1 or 2 and end up with 10.... I can see how it happens..... you just want to take them all home!
