I've had birds all my life, I guess. Grew up with a mother who had a soft spot for African Grey and Cockatoo rescues.
I've only OWNED birds since I was 11. Got two lovies when I was 11. The female killed her cage mate and then began to fly into her cage bars, so we gave her to a family friend who has a small flock of lovies in an aviary. And she is SUPER happy. She's almost 15 now! I think she was wild at heart. After that, I personally rescued an older tiel when I was 14, and he lived for another 2 years (I think he was 18 when he died). At 16, Daddy bought me Scarlett. She's 12 now, and still the love of my life I'll probably have birds until I die, too. My brother is in school to be a vet, so we always have a backup plan.
