Playstands: Homemade vs Store bought

So I have noticed that a lot of you have playstands that are homemade, I was curious if it is cheeper (besides the fact it would be safer) to make one of your own or to buy one? I dont need anything too big (for those that don't know I have a IRN) but we want one for the table between our chairs & maybe another one to move around the house.

If I did choose to do this myself, where would I look for some how to's & safe materials to use?

It may be a bit cheaper... but takes a LOT of time.

I made the decision to DIY so that I could get what I wanted... none of the pre-made ones had everything I desired. Mine has a regular ladder, a spiral ladder, a swing, a cargo net, a training perch, lots of toy haners, climbing chains, and their Hoopball or a boing can go in the middle. Up top, there are food and water cups and a toy/foraging basket for the foot toys they adore.

Mine is here in unfinished state:

Robyn, that thing is awesome! :O

I'd love to make something like it someday, but my Nanday is positively petrified of PVC. I have no idea why.

I must say you have done an excellent job so far!! What is the colored wrap around the pvc? I have seen that in a few posts, what is it used for?

But that gives me a lot of ideas as to what we want. Somthing a bit smaller.

its called VET wrap. it helped the birds to stay on the play stand. It gives them more grip

I think the longest it has taken me to build a playgym is about two hours. Not including the monster bamboo gym I made. All have been under $40.

I used poly rope to wrap instead of vetwrap. Took longer. A LOT longer. Not sure I would recommend it. LOL
