Oh... I can see it. I had bronchitus, pneumonia, asthma, and the real honest to goodness flu once. All at the same time. I was in the hospital for 18 days and on disability for a good month or more after.

During that time... a yelling bird that had to be fed 2-3 times daily would have been too much!

What I do NOT understand is why they hold on to them. If you have new triplets, just became CEO, your spouse died, and your in-laws just moved in... your plate is full. That is fine. Crap happens. Then find a good home for your animals.

Too often I see on this board "if you are not going to care for them for 30 years you should not have them". And everyone talking about "forever" homes. Truth is... sometimes we cannot predict life. It is better to just accept that you did not foresee it and feel bad... but your little guys would be better off in a home that is capable of doting on them in the manner to which they have become accustomed, and which you can no longer provide.

Sorry... I am for every animal being in the best possible home... not just in an adequate home for a really long time. There is a BIG difference. The animal's welfare and happiness should come first... not just the owners wants.

Just because you have always wanted a U2 and have $2000 a month to spend on toys and such for it and read every book out there does not mean that you should own one that clearly is unhappy in the environment in which it is being kept. I am not saying you should not have one. Just perhaps not THAT one. THAT one may adore your great Aunt Hilda that has always wanted one as well. You should rehome the bird.

Back to the subject...
I wonder if this lady feel SHE has to eat each day? Birds metabolisms are so much faster than ours, they need to eat MORE often... not less!

I do hope they are willing to part with them. I would ask her without even mentioning money. Sounds like she might go for it. That $50 will be needed for some TLC care and such.

It's not so much that people put birds into basements, or whatnot...

It's that they don't look upon birds as living beings that need care and compassion. This means feeding them daily, looking after their needs... and yes, even if the need is to re-home a bird to be able to give the bird what it needs. I, also, do not believe the whole "you made a commitment" routine on birds - or any pet. If you clearly cannot provide a good home, not simply adequate care because you're too busy, then you must think beyond yourself and pride and be truly responsible by finding better. /shrug

Hope you get those little guys!

Why don't you try eating every other day and see how you feel!
