Good plants vs Bad plants

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know about bad plants for birds? We have a new kakariki and he ventured out of his cage for the first time yesterday. His flight feathers are still growing back but he did really really well! He was VERY proud of himself.

So this brings us to toxic vs good plants for birds. We live in an apartment and brought in some of our balcony plants to see if we can keep them going over the winter. We now have a few kinds of basil and 2 kinds of hot pepper in the apartment. I read that basil is okay, but I can't find much out about hot peppers. I looked at a previous thread on here about bell peppers, and they were okay.

The 2 pepper plants are a hot banana pepper and a tepin pepper (or birds eye pepper, funny); does anyone know about these?

Also, we have a ficus tree and Boo made a beeline for it, kept wanting to sit in its branches - I've looked that up and it seems ficuses are really good for them to play in and nibble on.

Can anyone confirm for me about philodendrons? We have a big one (the 'triffid') and I read that they are toxic.

Thanks!
Jacki
