Confused? What about shampoo. . . .

So, I have suddenly realized that I may be doing something that could put Scarlett at risk. And HAVE been for 12 years.

I know candles aren't safe. I know my lavendar oils aren't safe. I use these sparingly and when she isn't in the bathroom. BUT. . .

Hubby and I shower with Scarlett. And showering means shampoo and soap. And my shampoo has patchouli and other things in it. Am I an awful bird mommy for using these products around her?

I wouldn't have even said anything, but knowing how many people shower with their fids, if it's unsafe, I figured more people could learn from it. My vet (all the ones we've ever used) have always told us to shower with the birds. But no one has EVER made mention of shampoo and soaps. . .

On the other hand, I have skin allergies, and all of the products I use have to be mild enough for me to not look like I've danced in red makeup after I'm done. But still. . . .

Am I wrong for doing this? Educate me people!

i think as long as they're mild and you have an exhaust fan on in it wouldn't make a difference. i used shampoo and body wash around my bird, but i always put him up out of the way while i use it.

I never let them on me while washing my hair. they all have shower perches.
I would ask the vet.

We dont actually bring our fids into the shower until after all of the washing and rinsing is done. Certain birds shower with me and certain birds with the husband. When we are done doing our thing we will let the other know its okay to bring whichever birds to get into the shower, that way they have constant supervision and no distractions. Also no worries about soaps, shampoos, body washes etc. We usually adjust the temp of the water too. Just an idea.

Always shower perches, and no shampoo or body wash is allowed on Scar. I just realized when I was shopping for more shampoo that it has essential oils and I kind of freaked.
