I can't believe it. Who'd have known birds were so intellegent?
I hope I haven't insulted anyone by that title. Its not meant to. Its just that until 6 months ago when my friend got male and female B&Y Macaws, which at the time I thought he'd gone of his rocker for doing, did I realize what amazing pets/friends they make. I really had no idea Aves could be so much fun to have around. I fell in love with the female (Luna), as she has done with me. She won't leave me alone for one minute when I go to visit. We lie on the bed and she rolls on her back to have her tummy tickled and tucks her head deep between my shoulder and head and loves French kissing!!! Her partner (Sol) although he gives me kisses as well, limits me to only that. I'm not allowed to touch him as his owner, my friend is.
Anyway, what i'm trying to get at is that this has opened up a whole new world for me. I've laways had cats and still do have 3 of 'em, but thanks to Sol & Luna, have ended up with a 4 month old Green Winged Macaw which in the 10 days I've had him is repidly becoming very close to my heart. I spent half of today buying him toys and all the things I know he loves, and doesn't so much love to eat, to make sure he grows into an even bigger healthy boy than the monster already is! Heck, i've even given up my office space for him, moved the pc and everything into the living room, so he can have his own private room, deched out with branches I collected from the woods and more toys than he can distroy in a day! I'm nervous as hell, cos i've jumped in right at the deep end, but at least I have my friend and his B&Y's to help me get things right, but loving every minute of this fantastic new relationship with Dino ![]() A load of babble, but needed to say it :-) |

Wow, you got hooked. It really can happen that quick. I got hooked when I was eight or nine (the 1970's) and it wasn't until adulthood that I was able to indulge this interest. It sounds like Dino is going to have a great life. Keep us posted on his adventures and if you get any pictures we'd love to see them.

Hi Tom. I had a budgie when I was that age. I loved it, but it was a budgie, and that's how I've gone through life thinking birds are - can learn tricks, but not much more - until now that is, and now I'm in awe of where this relationship with Dino and me could go. 10 days now. How good must it be after 10 years?

Hi Mojo & Shinda, from Dino, though he's gone to bed now and I'm sitting here on this board because all I can do is think of him! For the first time in a long time, I really look forward to the alarm going off in the morning, so I can give my Dino a big hug and stroke the his neck feathers the wrong way round, which he goes into ecstacy over. tichk tock, tick tock, just 12 hours 'til the next hug :-)

stlbirdgirl. i've got to admit, I've never been the slightest bit interested in birds. I thought they were just birds - things that flew around. What an eye opener Sol & Luna were, and now Dino. What have you got? Please don't abbreviate it, I'm not up on all the jargon yet.

A GW as your first bird.....
wow.... You sure do love the deep end, don't ya? I can understand your attraction to them. Affectionate, big, bold & beautiful, people can't help but lose their hearts to Macaws. LOL! Most folks find love from a distance is good enough as soon as they: get their first love nip..... or hear an average Macaw "Can ya hear me now?" calling session.... or they lose a leg off every chair in the house as well as 3 of the 4 legs on their diningroom table to their cute little "feathered termite". Things are starting out good & strong for you two, so the best of luck with Dino! One thing I would mention though is be careful with branches collected from outside. Some types of wood can be dangerous (toxic) to birds. I can't seem to find my list of safe woods here, but if ya do a Birdboard search, you should find the threads here on that topic. Any wood used for birds should be checked for any insect activity and be protected from invasion while allowed to dry & season. LOL! Tom was very polite and all, but I don't think his request properly relayed the urgency we members feel when somebody posts that they have a new FID, especially one like a GreenWing.... WHERE'S THE PICS????????????????????????? Come on... COME ON! Stop holdin out on us - let's see them pics!!! DINO! ![]() DINO!! ![]() ![]() DINO!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() DINO!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]()

In for a penny, in for a pound.
I've never found it hurts to dive in the deep end. Its actually safer, don't you think?
Oh thanks a lot for all those abbreviations. Are you trying to train me too? No, I'm not going to fly to your arm, or wherever I may land, if you offer me peanuts! Yup, your right, a GW is just one big cuddly Dinosour with a highly destructive jaw, yet he has never once hurt me (yet), and that's the part that amazes me. How does he exert so much pressure on a table leg, yet barely tickle my finger when I stick it in his gob? |
