For anyone who doubts Birds Have Emotions

I remembered a story today because a friend of mine sent me youtube video's. He told me that it reminded him of the story I shared with him so I thought I would share it with you.

Way back when, almost 20 years ago now, I was working in a bar. The bar closed at 2:00 am and I had to do clean up so I didn't get out of there until 3:00/3:30 am. I was living in Va. Beach at the time.

There is a place there call Mount Trashmore., its a park with a lake. I was traveling down the road behind it at 3:30 am on morning going home from work. There in the road was a flock of ducks, just standing there. I had to hit the brakes to keep from hitting them. So I pulled over. There in the middle was a duck that had been hit by a car. The other ducks would not leave the dead one. I just couldn't watch this happen, because I knew that there would be more killed. So I go out there by myself and try to move them. I yell, a sway my hands, nothing worked. In a few minutes other cars stopped to help. We couldn't get them to leave the dead duck. They just stayed there. Then the police were called. I guess we were causing a problem. When the police came they too tried to help the ducks. Nothing could make them leave the dead one. So finally after about an hour, several close calls with us and the ducks, the police decided to block traffic, as I and 4 strangers I have never met drug the dead duck 2 blocks back to the park where the lake was. The others followed us and we got them to safety.

That night I was blessed to be able to witness, emotions in nature. Their friend was dead and they would not leave him.
It was very moving and I was touched.

My friend sent me these 2 video's because he said it reminded him of that night. For anyone who questions if birds feel emotions...they DO!

I've read stories about how Ravens mourn the death of a family members too. They all huddle around the bird then let out a song of caws, then suddenly go deathly quiet.
I have my own story that I found quite unnerving at the time. I was burying my first lorikeet after the accident that killed him. There were wild lorikeets and cockatoos feeding in a big eucalypt tree near us. After I filled in the grave, the exact moment I had finished saying my goodbyes, the entire tree full of about 50 parrots suddenly took off in a flurry of loud cries and calls, as if they had been disturbed. I like to think of that as a tribute to Charlie.
