How exciting, but yeah that sucks. It's very rude but I'm interested to see what the issue is. I didn't know you were looking into getting a macaw! *be's jealous*

Something like that has happened to me before. I was going to buy a Hahns Macaw that the owners told me to pick up on Monday. I came back on Monday, and they told me that they had sold him to a *higher bidder*

It happens. I've been asked to pick up a bird before and then been told oh well we decided to sell it instead. You can really tell between the people who love their birds and want the best for them and the people who just wanna make a quick buck off them when they do that.

I had that happen to me with my little Erma. The lady and I talked for a week and a half. She told me I could come and get her on Saturday (she sits behind me now making clicking noises imitating keyboard...LOL) and when I called Saturday, she told me she had sold her to a lady that came by Thursday night and that she was really sorry. It was about a month after our deadly teflon incident and I cried and cried all day. Sunday, a friend of mine had called and said there was a parrot on Craigs List that looked just like Sully one of the birds I had lost. I had never been on Craigs List before so I got on and sent a message, I knew it was Erma, I told my husband. The lady called me and was explaining she had bought this bird a few days ago from an old couple in Great Bridge and I asked if her name was Erma... the lady said yes and I explained my story. She claimed that Erma was mean and crippled and when could I come by. Well, it was 8 o'clock on Sunday nite and I convinced my husband to go. I have to tell you it was so nice to finally meet Erma. The lady told me they had changed her name and she didnt like the fact that she could fly. She had (has) two constricted toes, but anything but crippled. I started talking to her and called her by her name... it was love. She stepped right up for me. I went back the next day and paid her ransom and she has been with me ever since. I called the elderly couple who originally had her and let them know what happened. I hope your story will have a happy ending. I will keep my fingers crossed. Sometimes these things have a way of working themselves out.

Thanks for everyone's stories, I am glad I am not the only one.
I am kinda mad though that I didn't pick him up when I had the chance (while I was there the first time)... But I was only thinking how un-smart it would have been to bring that much money to a house were I have only met them over e-mail/phone... in that part of LA.

I am almost thinking I should...
I would rather find out over the phone or e-mail... I am just hoping that something happened... like they didn't pay there cable and phone bill, and they didn't get any of my messages.

I dont like paying cash, hard to track. For large things like bird buying, I like to have a sales agreement too. Its smart that you didnt come with cash, or maybe Ive just lived in NY too long.

I also can totally relate to not wanting to bring too much cash into a house you do not know. You were just trying to be safe. ALthough...thinking about it...they really would have no way of knowing you didn't have the cash...so if they wanted to try to rip you off, they would have regardless. It's best to go with other people when responding to an ad from craigslist.
