The Whispering Amazon

So I get tired alot, and take a nap in the afternoon, especially on my days off. I was lying in bed watching tv, and listening to Jersey talk to himself, he is quite amusing...he'll go on and on and on, quite loudly.....so I turn the tv off and hide under the covers to take my nap...well silly Jersey, hes so smart! I geuss he knows its quiet time because his tone of voice goes down to a whisper, but he keeps on having a talk with himself but in a much quieter way....I started laughing and laughing, it was a riot....He was whispering here kitty kitty, and what a pretty pretty bird, so softly it was hard to hear him...hahaha of course the cockatoos never can be quite so nice to me!

Oh how adorable! I know the general consensus is that Greys make the best talkers/mimics but I actually think Amazons just beat them! Amazons have a more human-sounding voice.

Charlie does the same as Jersey when he knows it's bedtime. He goes through his usual 'Goodnight Charlie' routine at the top of his voice then when the lights are turned off he does it again for a couple of minutes but really quietly! It's very amusing!

This was Charlie last night just before he went home with Mark (my man).

Another clip I filmed last year.

I've yet to hear a Grey talk/laugh/sing with such a convincingly human voice!

Amazons, love em!

Have you got any video clips of your boy?

Even if my boys could whisper I don't think they'd care to. If they are awake they believe the world should share in their joy.

My macaw does the same thing. One minute he is normal loud mouth and then he will go in his cage and sit there whispering. I think when he is doing this he is practicing new words.

Too cute!!!

None of mine whisper. They think if they can see me (and even if I can't) I should never forget they are here and wanting attention!

Of course Lilly and Tuck Tuck know to be quiet at night but this morning my hubby and I were whispering and Lilly says "Hi Lilly I know you're there"

That is too funny.

My guys haven't begun that type of direct dialogue yet. I'm starting to wonder if they're a little dense.

Oh man. My Yellow Nape doesn't know how to turn down the volume. He does imitate a whisper.

Just really loudly.

We call it his "Satan impression" because he sounds like he's possessed.

It goes like this: "ARERWARARAAAAARRRARR WARRRAWWRARR"

I really should get some video someday....

My U2 does the same thing.... We will get her all rallied up by jumping and clapping and then stop and whisper to her. She will bring her head down to her feet and whisper back to us. The longer I have her the more I realize how amazing birds really are.
