Bathtub, Wine, Budgies, and a Good Book!

OK, so I am impatient, I admit it. I haven't had my budgies for even a week, and I am anxious to have them tamed. I've been putting the cage on the bed with me every night, opening the door, leaving my hand inside while I read, etc., but they are still afraid of me....sooo...

Today I got a glass of wine, a pillow, a good book, and two budgies, and went into the bathtub (no water obviously) to read. I had a dish with seeds and veggies, and let the critters walk around while I ignored them and read my book. Then I tried getting them to not be afraid of my hand. Ha-Ha!! After getting them on my hands, which they landed on quite by accident, I let them sit there and just talked to them and gave them kisses and told them what good little birdies they were. One of them actually got the hang of "step-up", but the other is still a bit freaked out by the whole thing. Actually, all in all I think it worked pretty well, so tomorrow we do it again, this time with millet because the seeds and veggies didn't go over very well.

About 1/2 hour of this, then I put them back into their cage, and continued drinking wine, LOL!! I don't know if the birds like this, but I think it's delightful!!

No bathtub today, but I did put my hand in their cage and tried to get them to step up. They fluttered around, and eventually did, reluctantly, get on my finger. I told them how good they were, and they stayed there for a few minutes. I was able to move one out of the cage before he flew off, and the other didn't want to come out of the cage, but at least they stood on my fingers with a lot less commotion than before. Bit by bit...I think this will work.

Today the boys sat on my hand and ate millet! They sat there for about 10 minutes while I walked around the house, and then later on they flew out of their cage to the floor, and got back on my hand for a lift up to their cage without too much chasing around. Progress!

That is a great idea. I'll try that too.. with the wine of course. I wonder if they'll understand me when I start slurring my words? LOL
