Black Palm Cockatoo

Birds of Australia - The Black Palm Cockatoo

Palm Cockatoo, Majestic, Beautiful, God Given

Palm Cockatoo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

These birds are among the highest level of endangered species for two reasons. First, their native country,Papua-New Ginea, is rapidly being developed, thereby displacing the prime breeding grounds for these reclusive, fantastic creatures. Second, ABRC, the largest breeder of Black Palm Cockatoos, has been sold off by the original owner's son. Their breeding stock has been shipped all over the world, and without this source of Black Palms, we believe there chances survival has been decreased significantly. We encourage anyone with the resources to put together breeding pairs of these birds to assist in their domestic reproduction. from the "Golden too" site

On Oct. 21st, Wendi DiAlverio (? spelling) will be doing a presentation at our club meeting. She breeds rare and endangered Cockatoos, including the Black Palm. If possible, she will be bringing some of her birds to the meeting. I will update our club's website with all the information as soon as I get a bio from Wendi. Visitors are welcome to attend!

I love these birds too, but I always try to discourage people who want them as normal pets for a few reasons. Main one being these birds REALLY need the breeding boost right now and it's a bit of a waste having them sat doing nothing in a home.

I used to know and American friend who bred them and he said he had a runt bird as a pet and he was more aggressive and loud than most of the other too's hes owned. (and he had alot) Whether this is a one off or not i'm not sure but remember him saying the Blacks are a bigger handfull than other Toos.

Gorgeous animals, and some great links posted!

Black Palms are great birds and make great pets. I don't feel all of the black palms need to be in a breeding program; they should be enjoyed with families like any other bird!

Oh, that's my dreambird. If I ever would have a house far away from other neighbors... and could afford it... I would definetely have a pair of Palm Cockatoos. Tame, but still they would have an aviary and a huge room for themselves. *Dreaming*
