A Birdy Buddy for Pita...?

OK, here's the scoop. Shirley is an adorable little Quaker at TGF. When ever I go to the Bird Brain, I get her out of her cage and she spends time with me on my shoulder, making all those cute little quaker noises. I have fallen for her. She was going to be adopted, but her adoption fell thru. She was owned by a lady that worked at The Bird Brain for TGF. She is handicapped, and could no longer care for her. She is English, so Shirley talks with a English accent, which is fabulous...LOL She is such a little love bug.

At the Dinner Bee & I went to with Julie (the founder of TGF) last weekend, we talked about her & the possibility of me taking her. My concerns were of course how Pita would react, and if I would be able to care for 2 birds. Julie suggested that maybe I foster her just so I can see how it would be. Or even take her for a weekend. Julie said that Quakers & Conures get along very well since they are both South American birds, and that they keep the Conures & Quakers together at TGF.

Here are some pics & videos of Shirley & I.....

Can you guys give me some advice about taking in another bird. Especially since Pita & I are so bonded. It's been me & him for a very long time.

The Pros & Cons....most of you know the situation with Pita & I, so be honest. I think I am more afraid of me failing them, then I am of them not getting along.

Thanx

Obviously don't know you personally, but from what I read on these boards I don't think little Shirley could go to a better home. I think your dedication and love is more than apparent with Pita... and Shirley already.

My sun, Lily won't even entertain another human. She just yells until they remove themselves from her sight! When Mimi, my hahns came she loved her instantly. I know all birds are different, but my lily... also bonded strongly to me had no problem with another bird. I think it's made her a tiny bit more independent.

I can't advise you on introducing the two birds but Shirley is a poppet! I hope you're able to give her a home and that Pita is able to accept her

I agree totally with Xen's post, your dedication and love are apparrent. You could do it for a few days and see how it goes, but I think you will do fine and so will they.

After seeing that video that has to be the cutest little bird ever. My advice would be to try it out for a week or so. Pita will need time to warm up to the new guy and it might take longer then that but I am sure you could definitely find a way to make it work.

well you know what I am going to say...
I have three birds. Bacio and Bella are bonded. My TGF bird, Bebe, was a one off that I started out fostering as well. Even if the two (Pita and the new one) don't get along, they will still benefit from each others company. There may (most likely) be jealosy - at best they will learn to play together, but in my house, I have to handle Bacio/Bella and Bebe seperately. and no, they don't scream while the other is getting attention. But I'm always in favor of folks adopting Gabriel birds :-)

Gayla-I do not think there is anyway you could fail Pita or Shirley. There will be a break in period for the two of them as you know...but this might ease your concerns of Pita being home alone too!

I think it would be great for all of you. And bringing her home on the weekends for adjustment is perfect!! How exciting.

Cute! I hope you adopt her. I think Pita would adjust to the new addition.
