Outlaw's Sweet Potato Mash Revisited
Outlaw's Mash revisited
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- With so many new members and so many molting birds, I thought I might drag up my famous Sweet Potato and Peanut Butter mash. It's great for molting birds with added fat and beta carotene and the additional vitamin C. OUTLAW'S SWEET POTATO MASH 3 sweet potatoes (cut up) 1 fresh orange 2 heaping tablespoons of creamy peanut butter Boil sweet potatoes until fork tender. Remove water (I save mine and add it to my rice when I cook it) and smash. You don't have to remove the skins. Let your bird work a little. Roll the orange around on the kitchen counter, pressing as you roll to help release the orange juice within the unpeeled orange. Slice it in half and squeeze it over the mash, removing any seed. Discard the rind. Mix in the peanut butter. You can increase it if you choose. I'm just guestimating, because I have to triple this recipe when I make it for my flock. I usually add a shot of cinammon and serve warm to the fildren for a breakfast meal. They all love it and will lick the bowl bottom. Its probably the best molting food you can provide your birds. THE OUTLAW

Thanks so much for this recipe!! I just made it (but didn't have any oranges) and gave some to both of my birds. Willow is happily eating away and Mango has even tried some!! :eusa_clap There are not many fresh foods that Mango will eat, although he is becoming much better. I have seen him try peas, corn, and a little carrot. I mixed some of this with his pellets so that way he would still have his food but would have to try some sweet potatoe too. I put the bowl in and Mango went right down to see what I had given him. Thanks again.
