I am so friggin mad!!!!!!!!! *%?*&^%^%^!!!!

As some of you may know, I've been looking at a Yellow Side Conure that has been at Petco for over a year and a half. It's the only one left and they say they are not going to be bringing in anymore conures since they are too difficult to sell.

I was in a few weeks ago, pulled up my britches, told myself no, and then went to look at the birds. This little guy "Pebbles" was still there and very excited to see me. I played with the little sweetie, who nips everyone else, and then decided to see if I could get the manager to reduce the price of $399 since he had been there so long. He said no!

I went in the following week, and there was a 15% discount on him, still a bit too high since I just got Roo, my Sun about a month and a half ago for $700. (Roo had also been a long timer in a local pet store). I was also concerned because I have two Cinnamons that take my left shoulder, my GCC who has dibs on my head, and my two Suns are content in my shirt, peeking out. I was also hesitant to buy the Yellow Side "Pebbles" because all I had left was my right shoulder, and would I be able to give another Conure enough attention with the 5 others.

Well, I decided yes. They all ride around on me like a taxi anyway, all day long... lol.. and they all go to the store and everywhere else with me... I decided I had one shoulder left and yes, it was better than leaving him in that god forsaken store where everyone just dislikes him because he's "so mean" as they say.

I went in today to pick him up..... his cage unit was empty with a sign that said new birds to arrive soon! I was totally in shock as well as relieved that he had found a home. I was really grieving I guess.. I really gave this alot of thought.

I saw one of the gals that works in the bird section and asked about "Pebbles" and she looked at me and said. "Are you here to pick up your bird?" I was surprised and said no, but asked who had purchased him and for how much? (Just curiosity there)

She replied, "He's been in the back for a week waiting for the new owner to pick him up.. let me go ask the manager". She came back with "the new owners are looking for a cage and they agreed to purchase him for 50% off the normal price". I was livid.

I asked where the back was and would it be possible for me to visit with him one last time. She said sure and took me back to a room the size of my walk in closet, filled with storage items for fish tanks. The room had a sink, two huge garbage cans filled with water, and then in the back corner, against the wall, were 4 shelves. My "Pebbles" was in a little tiny cage, I wouldn't use it for a travel cage. (You'll see pictures of the approx. size in pics below) He had been in that cage for a week! Next to him was a cage with two keets, then down below, another cage with one keet, then next to it was a cage with a finch. There was also another keet on top of a stack of boxes.

Now the real clincher is..... when we entered the room.... she had to turn on the lights! How long had these babies been in this friggin room in these little tiny cages, with the lights off!

(REALLY WANTING TO USE BAD BAD WORDS RIGHT NOW)

So, in tears, I played with "Pebbles" for about 45 minutes, and said goodbye. As I was about to leave, I asked about the keets. She said they had been returned by people who bought them and they were waiting for adoptions. Adoptions?, I asked. She said they had been there between 2 1/2 months and 3 months. Oh god... I really wanted to scream! Well needless to say, I brought three of them home. I adopted all 4 actually... but left the one next to "Pebbles" to keep him company overnight.. I don't want him alone in the dark.

I take all 4 to the vet tomorrow because when I go back to the store, if the people who have "Pebbles" on hold have not picked him up... He's freaking coming home with me especially since his new owners have him on a hold with no money down and have not paid for him yet. It's all verbal. They will let me buy him at that price and bring him home or they are going to see some asian stir fry happening. After that, I am calling a few agencies... I love camera phones!

I know it was impulsive... and I wish I had a larger extra cage... but as you can see below... it's bigger than the one the lady bought for them and brought them back in. I'll have to add more toys and things and am going to find GOOD homes for them. But for now... they are safe and can wake up to the light. SHEESH I'M FRIGGIN MAD!!!

Sorry for venting..

That's crappy... yellow-sided GCCs are so cute; I'm surprised that he sat there that long! It's a shame that Petco marks them up so high :(

What's even more upsetting is the conditions that the conure and the budgies were being kept in behind-the-scenes! That's ridiculous.

Some people make me SO mad sometimes... I am glad you kept your cool cause if I was there [insert expletive here] would have hit the faN!!!!
I am glad you could rescue the budgies though... I never would have been smart enough to leave one behind, for "pebbles" company.

It also makes me wonder what happens in the back rooms of my neighborhood Petco... Hmmmm....

I'm going to let Geek do the talking for me. I like her words.

I am so hoping that bird is there tomorrow and you can take him home. Hopefully his new home will be a good one.

I am also glad you took the parakeets. They must be so happy to see daylight.
