I adopted Pebbles & Harley. I know that Pebbles is a Female But Harley not sure. What is the Ankle Braclete for on the bird? Does that tell you if it is a Male or Female? Any Advice Please give. Thanks

The band on your bird's leg doesn't indicate gender at all. It will refer to the aviary who bred the bird, sometimes the year, and the hatch number sequence. It's essentially a record of your bird's hatch and sometimes can help in relocating your bird if it's lost.

no, it does not refer to its sex.
there are numbers and letters on it.
the numbers often reflect the year (ex. 02-2002)& baby number(ex. 001-baby number 1 for the breeder) and the letters are for the breeder and or state.
the breeder can choose from a variety of colors for the band. I recently had someone come in my store and say they knew they had a boy, because his band was blue.

then there are open bands...for when bird were imported.....but we dont see as many of them anymore. the number and letters reflect the importation number and letter for the quarenteening station.

I just looks at Harleys Braclete. It says Fl meaning Florida and the next it says 2 05 and the letters after that. So does 2 05 mean feb 2005 for when he Hatched. I was told be the person that I adopted him that he was 6 months old and that was this past Summer. But that is ok. I dont care if Harley is older then what they said. Harley is my Baby. Let me know what you think.

Hard to say.. but GR is not girl. For one thing, no breeder calls their females 'girls', they'd call them hens or females. Second, no breeder is going to DNA test a chick BEFORE they band it - I seriously don't think any would even eggshell test that early.

My bands are simple, my aviary initials FOF then the bird's individual number 035 then the year 08 and the state CA so it would be FOF035 CA 08

I would guess ** is the aviary, D is a designation assignation like D = species, FL is the state, 2 could be anything, it might be simply the bird's number itself as in 2nd of X number of babies banded... and 05 I would imagine to be the year.
